Season 8 hits the streets
In a turn of events, Rocket League takes us from the high-end luxury that was Season 7, to the streets where the cool kids hang out in Season 8. The new season is live as of September 7th, 2022, and will end on December 7th, 2022.
The theme
This season is unmistakably street-themed, with the introduction of the Honda Civic Type R, a new urban city map, and a new hoops map coming later in the season.
The new Rocket Pass follows the theme with many new street-themed items — some of them inspired by graffiti, which may peak some player’s interests!
Rocket Pass
This season follows the traditional Rocket Pass pattern of adding 70 new tiers of item unlocks, where a majority of the items are limited to the Pro tiers, while select items can be unlocked for free in the Free tiers. Once you surpass Pro Tier 70, you will start unlocking painted variants of the Rocket Pass items.
As always, many of the Pro-tiered items are tradable, so if you’re on the lookout for specific items, but don’t fancy the upgrade to the Premium Rocket Pass, then you can trade your way to them.
If you decide to purchase the Premium Rocket Pass, which unlocks the Honda Civic Type R car and gives you the opportunity to play to unlock plenty more, it'll cost you the usual 1,000 Credits. Alternatively, if you want a head-start on your Rocket Pass experience, you can pay 2,000 Credits, which will unlock both the Premium Rocket Pass and the first twelve tiers.
If you decide to make the purchase, please consider using our creator code RLGARAGE #EpicPartner to support RL Garage. ❤️
Items
This season marks the first time ever that a real-life car is included in a Rocket Pass. The Honda Civic Type R certainly looks the part for a street-themed update. As an iconic high-performance hatchback, it is certain to please many players.
Unlockable in the later Pro Tiers of the Rocket Pass is the upgraded Honda Civic Type R-LE, which adds both a carbon fiber hood, a large front intake, and a cool rear wing.
When painted, both versions of the car come equipped with what Psyonix refers to as “EdgeLight,” which appears to be an underglow effect on the bottom of the cars. That also means that the base version of the Honda Civic Type R can drop painted. That is unusual for Rocket Pass, but a welcome change!
The Honda Civic Type R and Honda Civic Type R-LE are both tradable, making these the first licensed cars to ever be tradable in Rocket League.
Psyonix has confirmed that the cars will be using the much-favored Octane hitbox.

One of the highlights of this Rocket Pass is the new Wrapstar Decal and Franko Fone Wheels. They look very bright and colorful, unlike anything we’ve seen before in this style.

And finally, the featured Goal Explosion of this Rocket Pass is the new Savage Spray, which can only be described as a colorful graffiti-spraying monster of an explosion.

There are many more items available in this Rocket Pass — too many to list here. If you're on the lookout for a full list of items, you can find them all on our Rocket Pass items page, from the Explore tab (Rocket League logo) in the Rocket Pass section or Items tab in the app.

All new items can now be used on the RL Garage car designer, as well as the new Sovereign Heights map. Who's getting the first design award with the new Honda Civic Type R?
New street arenas
Two new arenas are introduced with this season. One will be made available immediately, while the other will launch later in the season.
Sovereign Heights Arena
First up is the Sovereign Heights arena. A standard-sized Soccar map with a traditional grass field, surrounded by a beautiful city skyline (speaking of… maybe we’ll see the return of the Nissan Skyline this season?).
This arena is already live in the game and playable from all the standard playlists.
If you look closely, you will notice a PsyNet building on the outside of the arena. This is an Easter egg referring to Psyonix’s backend and database system for Rocket League, short for “Psyonix Network.” You have probably seen this name on player icons on the in-game scoreboard.
New Hoops Arena
Since the release of Hoops in 2016, we haven’t seen a single new arena for the game mode. That changes later this season, as we are finally getting a new Hoops arena! This time, on an outdoor court, inspired by street basketball. Like the Sovereign Heights map, this one also appears to be surrounded by an urban setting.
We don’t know much about the arena yet, apart from what was shown in the Season 8 trailer. The brief shots of it look very cool, and is sure to excite a lot of Hoops fans.
Tournament Rewards
Another wave of Tournament Rewards makes its way to you in Season 8. You can unlock an array of new items, including Black Markets, by competing in in-game tournaments. Some highlight-items this season includes the Starliner Decal and Amplidude Goal Explosion, which are both featured in the screenshot below.
By the way, if you want to be notified when the next tournament is about to start, check out our Tournaments page!

Now that Season 7 has ended, players are rewarded with new Boosts for their accomplishments in Competitive Mode. In-game titles will also be awarded for players at the Grand Champion and Supersonic Legend ranks.

More to come
As mentioned earlier, a new Hoops arena will be made available later in the season. Moreover, Psyonix has hinted at a refreshed Haunted Hallows event this Halloween, which is sure to bring lots of scary and creepy new items to Rocket League, and perhaps a new game mode — but that’s just speculative.
RL Garage’s take
As with the last season, we feel that Season 8 brings a fresh round of changes to the game. The street-themed update is cool. It feels like a side of Rocket League we haven’t quite seen before. Of course, it helps that the new items and arenas look outstanding.
The licensed Honda Civic Type R is an interesting choice for Rocket Pass. In a way, it feels off-brand for Rocket League to include a licensed car in a Rocket Pass, as those are typically reserved for DLC bundles in the Item Shop. But perhaps that doesn’t matter. In any case, the car suits the theme of the season really well, so can we really complain?
One thing we’re really happy to see, is that both versions of the Honda Civic are tradable.
The new arenas look incredible! The view of the city in Sovereign Heights is magnificent. And we finally get a new Hoops arena, which, we believe, is long overdue. Here’s hoping it sparks more interest in the Hoops community!
We wish this season would add a new Item Series, like we saw last season, but so far, this doesn’t seem to be happening. It’s possible that one will release later on in the season, but so far, Psyonix has made no mention of a new Item Series.
Overall, we think this season is far above average. Psyonix has outdone themselves again!
We would love to hear what you think about Season 8! Share your thoughts below. 👇
