The dragons of the Forbidden Temple have finally awoken from their slumber, and with them, they have brought a variety of new elemental items in Season 9. The new season started December 7th and ends on March 8th.

The Trans Am-inspired Emperor car, with four different versions, will be available in the Rocket Pass Premium. As you progress through the Tiers, you will unlock the upgraded Emperor II (Tier 70), as well as two Special Edition versions — Emperor II: Frozen (Tier 105) and Emperor II: Scorched (Tier 85). All versions of Emperor will use the Breakout hitbox.

These cars will be accompanied by new Items such as the Lunation Decal and Special Edition Wheels — Piercer: Crystalized, Boost Boot: Inverted, and Forerunner: Roasted. Players will also have a chance to obtain Ice Drake and Fire Drake Player Banners, which are very similar to the previous Dragon Banner Season Rewards from Season 5.

Those who venture into the Rocket Pass Pro Tiers can earn two new Goal Explosions - Brimstone and Ice Age. Similarly to the Cosmosis Goal Explosion from Season 5, these explosions will have effects that spread across the arena, briefly covering the pitch in fire or ice whenever a goal is scored. For the first time ever in a Rocket Pass, these two Goal Explosions will not be unlocked in the first 70 Tiers, but instead unlock at Tier 95 and Tier 115, respectively.

The Fire vs. Ice theme of Season 9 is brought to life in the new Forbidden Temple (Fire & Ice) arena, which has been transformed into a wasteland of permafrost and molten lava. This makes it the perfect map to showcase your new fiery or chilling car designs.

This Season’s Tournament Rewards will include the Seared Trail and Fireball Boost, as well as the Oil Can Antenna. The Black Market Rewards will feature the Fire Clap Goal Explosion and Skulking Scale animated Decal.

Overall, we think this is going to be a pretty solid season. The theme might not be as captivating as some of the other seasons, but it’s cool that we get essentially two themes this time around. It’s also fun to get some Forbidden Temple backstory. Since there are two sides to this season’s theme (fire and ice), we get cool new elemental items that we think users are going to really enjoy. Many of the new items appear to be great options for designing cars, and the new arena-filling goal explosions look stunning. We do wish we didn’t have to grind all the way to level 115 to unlock all the new items though — some of us have jobs!
