Season Three was fun, but all good things must come to an end. Luckily for us, when Rocket League seasons end, another one begins pretty much straight away! Season Four is now upon us and as always it brings a great new theme and a host of all-new items to collect.

This time around Psyonix have decided to give us a Western Mad Max-ey theme, with a new map, body and host of items (sometimes loosely) based around the season’s theme.

New Map!

This might be one of the first changes you’ll notice. With Season 4 comes an all-new arena called Deadeye Canyon, set in a dusty desert. The arena is a standard rectangular shape, no new Rocket Labs maps this time around, and surrounded by rock pillars and rocky outcrops. Watching over the map is a Rocket League ball stuck between two pillars, as seen in the teasers Psyonix posted on social media last weekend.

Outlaw GXT

As always, a new series brings a family of vehicles. For series 4, those vehicles are the Outlaw and the Outlaw GXT. Both are based on the Octane hitbox and could definitely be described as Max Max style. The GXT has a similar theme to the old Ripper battle car, with plenty of battle-themed add-ons to the body. Some have compared the body shape to the Twinzer which seems a fair comparison, although there are maybe some hints of the general Dominus body shape under there too. Either way, it looks pretty great, although it may not be a first choice for many players.

As expected with a new Rocket Pass, it drops a wide range of themed items too. We’ll cover these items separately soon, but one of the more notable items in the Premium range is the Yee Haw goal explosion, which features finger guns in the same style as the Hand Heart explosion from S2 and Chequered Flag explosion from Season Three. As few others we love are the Haunted Hoss wheels, Lava boost, and the Dead Horse topper is quite reminiscent of the Halo topper which we’re a big fan of.

In the free tier the only notable item you’ll unlock for sure are the Buckboard wheels which look completely different to anything we’ve seen previously. As always though, you’ll unlock various item drops throughout the season which can sometimes contain rarer items, so there’s something for everybody.

New Other!

There are a few other new features too, some of which the community has been clamouring for for a long time. New tournaments are being added to the mix including 2v2’s and extra modes. There’s a new set of tournament rewards too, which we’ll be covering separately soon.

Also added is a checkbox that will be widely appreciated by streamers, allowing any copyrighted music to be turned off and replaced, if needed, by copyright free music. 

There are also changes relating to queueing for matches. In ranked soccar games, undersized parties will only be able to queue for matches if they’re within three ranks of each other, which will hopefully help to balance teammate quality for those queuing solo. Casual matches now have an option to concede, too, with small bans being implemented for forfeiting matches too often.
