Rocket League: One Week On
It's now one week since the first players got hold of Rocket League, and it's safe to say that the game has gone down really, really well with gamers.
Remember before release, when Dave Hagewood, (aka Psyonix Dave) said that he'd eat 'a bunch of bread' if the game got more than 10,000 concurrent players in the first week? Last night Psyonix reported that more that 150,000 players were online at once. Does that mean Dave has to eat 15 bunches of bread? We certainly hope so.
The game is also receiving incredible reviews from popular review sites. PC Gamer gave the game an 87/100 rating, IGN users have rated the game on both platforms at more than 9/10 and Push Square also gave it a 9/10. In fact, it's basically impossible to find a bad thing to be said about the game. It's had more than a million downloads, received tens of thousands of views on Twitch and also had two inaugural tournaments on ESL.
Of course, the launch hasn't been without it's problems, the servers were offline for the best part of two days and lag is still an issue at times in ranked matches. However, given the strain that the servers have had to put up with, I think most of us would agree that Psyonix have handled the situation as well as they could have done.
All in all it's been a fantastic week which has set Rocket League up for the future. Hundreds of thousands of players, eSport support from major companies, a huge following, and that's just in one week. We can only speculate as to what's ahead, but if the coming months are as good as the past week, this game is going to be even better than any of us could have ever imagined.
