It didn’t take too long - the first Rocket League in-game event of 2022 is upon us! It’s called Neon Nights and hopes to celebrate the music of Rocket League. 

What’s more, it stars “Galactic Space Princess” Grimes, who’s actually quite a big deal. She seems to have a new album coming out soon which seems to be space related, so it all fits the theme of Season Five pretty well. If you’ve not heard of Grimes, she’s a… I’m not quite sure how to describe the genre of her music, but she’s a Canadian artist and a bit of a character to say the least. She also dated some bloke called Elon Musk with whom she had a child called X Æ A-Xii. Answers on a postcard as to how you pronounce that, please.

Still, I imagine you’re not here to hear about the music, you’re here for the items, and I’m pleased to say that this event comes with a fair few.

As per usual, there’s a set of relatively easy in-game challenges which will unlock themed items. These include:

If you’re into free items then there will also be two of those on the item shop to celebrate the Lunar New Moon. These are the Tiny Tiger Topper and the Tyger Decal which look nice enough.

The biggest thing about all of this though is the return of Golden Lanterns… sort of! Although they come at roughly the same time as last year’s Golden Lantern drops, this year we’re going to be unlocking Golden Moons instead. 

These are fundamentally the same as the other Golden drops, including the Golden Gifts just gone. This time around though they can contain items from the Impact, Nitro, and Overdrive series.

That means that at the top end you have the chance to find Firegod and 20XX decals or Hellfire and Atomizer goal explosions. Just remember that the chances of finding Black Market items are slim though - you’re more likely to get Rares or Very Rares, but it’s always good fun to open them up anyway.

Alternatively, if the Golden Gifts are anything to go by, you’ll be able to trade them for around 120 credits. I hope to open some up on those on the YouTube channel soon and see if they go any better than the Golden Gifts did, so get subscribed if you want to see that.

In terms of timing, the Neon Nights event runs from today, January 26th, through to February 8th, so you’ve got around two weeks to complete the challenges, unlock the exclusive items, and maybe earn yourself a few Golden Moons in the process.
