I’m really not sure where this year has gone but somehow it’s October, and that means that the 2021 iteration of the Haunted Hallows event is upon us already!

This time around Psyonix have partnered with DC Comics and Warner Brothers to bring us a Batman themed event, with a new arena (sort of), a themed game mode, a bunch of new items, and the return of some fan-favourite premium content. The event runs from October 14th through to November 1st.

First up is the new Gotham Night variant of Beckwith Park, which at face value looks rather similar to the normal night version. That said, the Bat Signal blazes above the map, with little easter eggs all over the place that relate to the Batman franchise. 

This arena is only available for a limited time, and seemingly just in one game mode. Hopefully it’ll end up available for selection in custom games eventually, but either way, it’s a really nice touch to mix up the maps for the event, well done Psyonix.

For the duration of the Haunted Hallows event there will also be a limited time Gotham Night version of Rumble. The usual power-ups have been replaced with Batman themed alternatives, such as Harley Quinn’s hammer rather than the boot, and Batman’s grapple rather than… well, the grapple. This is available as a casual playlist, and always takes place on the Gotham Night variant of Beckwith Park.

There’s a host of new Batman themed halloween items too, all of which can all be unlocked by completing limited time Haunted Hallows challenges. The new items and their unlock criteria are as follows:

The biggest news of the lot though is the return of the three Batmobile bodies, which I know a lot of you have been waiting for (patiently or otherwise).

First up is the classic Batmobile from 1989, driven by Michael Keaton’s Batman and based on the  Dominus hitbox. That’s swiftly followed by the Tumbler from Christian Bale’s Dark Knight trilogy of the 2000’s, which uses the Octane Hitbox for a feel that a lot of players will already know. Last but not least is the 2016 Batmobile that featured in Batman vs Superman. Sporting the Plank hitbox, this one has almost no height but a very large surface area, great for flicks.

As is often the case with Premium bodies, the three Batmobile bodies have very limited customisation options. No changes can be made to the body itself, asides from choosing whether or not to use the Reel Life decals. You’ll still be able to take your pick of goal explosions and options not relating to your battle car though.

Also available are three Batman themed goal explosions, each repping the Bat signal from the era that they relate to.

You can buy all of the premium Batman content in a bundle for 2000 credits, which contains the three bodies, associated Reel Life decals, and goal explosions. Alternatively, if you only want one of the bodies, you can buy individual body bundles for 800 credits. These include the body, the reel life decal, and the relevant goal explosion. The goal explosions are also available individually for 500 credits.

If you’re an OG player and bought the Batmobiles back when they were first available, you can purchase the Reel Life decals for 300 credits each. 

To finish I’d like to say two things - firstly, Pysonix, please bring a cool colour of the Reaper goal explosion to the store because I love dabbing on my opponents, purple would be absolutely perfect.
