A long, long time ago, back before the game was released, something very interesting happened. Dave Hagewood, aka Psyonix Dave, president of Psyonix, stated that if Rocket League got more than 10,000 players online at once, he would eat 'a bunch of bread.'
Now, that doesn't sound like too hard a challenge, but he hates bread, so it always seemed a bit of a silly thing to say given the pre-release hype about the game and the fact that it was set to be on Playstation Plus.
As I'm sure you're all aware, Rocket League did get more than 10,000 concurrent users. A lot more, actually. Within the first week Rocket League reached 183,000 concurrent users, a record still yet to be beaten, so naturally we were all expecting Dave to fall on his sword and eat this 'bunch of bread.'
As shown in this tweet, Dave's colleagues bought him the bread. They even covered his desk in it so that he would have easy access to it. But has he eaten it yet? No, he hasn't.
Progress has been slow on the campaign trail to get him to eat bread, but it seems to be heating up again today thanks to publicity from us and, more importantly, Team Rocket. To allow you to stay updated, we've launched a page entitled "Has Dave Eaten The Bread Yet?" which we'll update with more information as it unfolds.
We can't let him get away with it.
