Child tends to refer to something that is a sub-section or attached part of something else. If someone comments on my comment, theirs would be a "child" while mine is a "parent". As far as I can tell, TPNE's comment should probably be a Parent, not a Child and that messed with something in the backend, this is likely a rather uncommon issue but I've forwarded it nonetheless.
