Weekly Round Up

Another LAN final, another victory for the current longest lasting roster in Oceania. Despite their recent rough patch, it seems they thrive in the right environment and they showed no sign of losing the ESL AU&NZ S2 LAN Finals. Pale Horse eSports showed some early jitters but managed to correct themselves for the latter part of the day, eliminating JAM Gaming earlier than expected. The Other Team, now Avant Gaming, unfortunately failed to find their stride.

But as one major tournament ends, another begins. In a couple days sign ups will close for Throwdown Season 4; the path to RLCS. For the top teams, the past couple months have been in pursuit of that glory. With the scene being more competitive than ever, we're likely to see the best Rocket League yet in our region.

Rankings

1 - Chiefs ESC

Drippay, Torsos, Jake, ENiGMA | + 3

Chiefs, Chiefs, Chiefs, or should we just call them the Lan-Bois of OCE. Whilst a majority of results from last week don't matter, the biggest and most important LAN went through with Chiefs only dropping a single game over their 12 played games for the day. Taking home the ESL AU&NZ Championship yet again, this time as their first large event under the Chiefs org, it makes them the most successful live event team in Oceanic history, guaranteed. With the Chiefs boys already having a League Play spot for RLCS they can't ask for much more and if we're being honest with ourselves, we all expect them to make it to the international LAN yet again. - Nutterres

2 - Pale Horse eSports

Kamii, Kia, CJCJ, Julz, xkorez | Nil movement

Coming second in their first ever LAN event is a massive milestone for these guys. It took some time to get comfortable in an unfamiliar environment; their first match up against against Chiefs ESC was by all accounts unimpressive. They managed to turn it around in the lower bracket, casting aside Avant Gaming. With their confidence restored they were the victor against a weakened JAM Gaming, going all seven rounds to do it. In the end nothing was stopping the Chiefs, but they were the only ones to take a round off them.

In recent times this team has been showing up in a huge way. They finished second in Throwdown Season 3, and now second in ESL AU&NZ S2 LAN Finals. I would expect come Throwdown Season 4 that Pale Horse eSports could turn out to be a consistent force to be reckoned with.- n0lsk1

3 - JAM Gaming

MontyConnor, Express, shadey | - 2

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Thankfully not too far though, as they still round out the top 4 with relative comfort. Having being the kings of the ladder for a full month there was expectation going into this week that JAM would continue their domination. The losses against Chiefs and Pale Horse during ESL might be excused as a result of travel, or their curse regarding 1st place LAN finishes, but the loss to Conspiracy as well isn't a good sign.
With Chiefs getting back their mojo and Pale Horse showing they're here to stay, it's a dangerous time to drop the ball, so let's just hope it was an off week.- Courier

4 (tied) - Avant Gaming

Cyrix, ellusive, Siki, Requiem | + 1

The OCE RL scene welcomes a huge name to the fold, Avant Gaming. Avant have picked up "The Other Team", announced on the morning of the ESL AU&NZ Champs offline finals. They were looking to put up a good result in their first matches under the org, however they couldn't find a win going out in 4th place. The games all day for them were very tight, generally only losing games by 1 goal, often in overtime. They went 1-1 in the MCS (like everyone else) with a 4-3 win over Scylla and a 2-4 loss to Chiefs. Avant Gaming are running a defensive counter-attack playstyle that is an absolute grind to play. It is incredibly effective against the lower teams on the PR and gets them very close to victories against higher teams. If they can keep these teams as low on the score sheet and increase the average by about a goal a game they could push for the top with an incredibly frustrating style to play against.- Tibore

4 (tied) - Scylla Esports

Dumbo, aoe_emp, SnarfSnarf(Kira), Daisu | - 1

Scylla only played two matches this week, both in the MCS going 1-1. A 4-1 loss over Pale Horse was showing some amazing and promising form, however then dropped to Avant Gaming in 7 games. They will drop to equal 4th in a split decision by the Power Rankers. For me Scylla has been the most consistently inconsistent side (if that makes sense) in the scene. For weeks they have fluctuated with their results, moving between 6th and 2nd and not keeping the same rank two weeks in a row for some time. Each week brings something new from Scylla making it is really difficult to predict how their matches will go. Which Scylla will turn up this week?- Tibore

6 - Legacy eSports

Soma, Plitz, ZeN | Nil movement

Legacy of old and new will both be very accustomed to a constant 6th place and sadly this is where they have sat and most likely will sit for a while. Teams below them struggle with this Legacy lineup, and the teams above them have an easy time. The key for this lineup is to get some success in the MCS and RLCS qualifiers then build on it and hopefully build on their rankings. Given their general struggles at getting consistent results I wouldn't be surprised if Soma is looking forward to GroovyGrape's return in the hopes of some positive results.- Nutterres

7 - Feint

Flawe, Myst, Tulendeena, Calamareee | + 2

Feint was on the precipice of cracking the top 6 this week and would have gotten away with it too, if it werent for that meddling Legacy. They took out ESL monthly and nearly took out Throwdown community night. They have really stepped up the quantity of games played this week and their perseverance has show dividends. Now if they can just keep this up leading into the next round of big money tournaments I'd be expecting to see their names smashing around the brackets and throwing some dollar bills in the air. - Courier

8 - Conspiracy eSports

Slurpee, Hectic, WallcottsPace, Triggsy | Nil movement

These guys put in an extraordinary effort against JAM Gaming in a truly David & Goliath match-up in MCS this week, winning 4-3 over the stronger side. However if it wasn't for this result I would expect them to be lower on the rankings, because outside that result they were relatively unremarkable. With losses to Feint, Olympus eSports (ex-Misfits) and Gooses with Nooses, the magical win against JAM Gaming turned out to be their saving grace. They'll have to secure wins against those teams to hang on to their ranking, bar beating Chiefs. - n0lsk1

9 - Outlaws

Addzey, CJM, ORION | + 1

Outlaws are a team I'm not personally impressed with this week, but they still manage to sit in 9th spot which is a single step up. Having played only a single tournament with their full core, being the Throwdown Community Night and only playing best of 3's, the results aren't stunning but still enough to keep them on the power rankings. Gooses with Nooses however are hot on their tails and Outlaws will really have to start playing and getting some positive results in an attempt to guarantee their position stays on the rankings. - Nutterres

10 - Gooses with Nooses

Sammy, Snares, Delusion | New

Coming into the competitive scene with a BANG; Gooses with Nooses has made it into the top 10 insanely fast. With big wins against Conspiracy, To Be Decided and Feint they have already put themselves in the spotlight and will be jumping up the ladder next week if they can keep up the pace. They aren't just taking match wins either, they are bringing the heat and taking tournaments out too; they've won the ESL Go4RL and Vapour FNL, and almost took out the Throwdown Community Night as well! We were unanimous with this week's team to watch, so keep your eyes peeled for the Gooses with Nooses.- Courier

Teams to watch:

Nutterres: Gooses with Nooses

Tibore: Gooses with Nooses

Courierlord: Gooses with Nooses

n0lsk1: Gooses with Nooses
