Shalthis Says: Looking at the NA Power Rankings

7 years ago by Shalthis in Esports

This week’s power rankings for NA are not surprising. At #10 is Applesauce, which is a team that got fairly fortunate to have made it to 10th. I presume they did 10th best and are still riding the momentum of their win over Iris from a few weeks ago. At #9 is Ohana who didn’t move at all since the last rankings. With DarkFire gone and DudeWithTheNose moving from sub to main roster, it’ll be interesting to see how they change with a new player on their main roster.

With Genesis at #8, this is a little surprising. I remember watching them implode on social media when they did not qualify for the RLCS LAN, but they haven’t officially broken up yet. Though Chrome has officially left the team, I’m not sure why they’re here, but they did really well in RLCS S3 League Play. Let’s see what happens to Genesis in the coming weeks.

At #7 is SetToDestroyX. This team did fairly well in the RLCS before being mathematically eliminated after League Play. Though they placed 4th at PRL 28, it was their first set of games since RLCS. For this team, time will tell exactly where STDX is.

#6 belongs to G2 Esports. The team didn’t make LAN nor have they played since their RLCS elimination. Though they did win RLCS S1 several months ago, G2 will likely get a new team in the off-season, I think. I don’t expect Kronovi to go anywhere, though he may make some changes to the 2 and 3 on his team. G2 wouldn’t want to let him go.

Two teams are tied for 4th place – Denial Esports and The Muffin Men. The latter team is awfully high and probably shouldn’t be tied with a team like Denial. Though they didn’t do fantastic at the RLCS S3 NA Divisional Finals, they still qualified for the S3 LAN. We don’t yet know how Denial will do at the actual RLCS LAN and The Muffin Men’s big wins this week all came with G2’s JKnaps filling in.

#3 goes to Selfless, #2 to Atellier (now Rogue), and #1 is NRG. None of those places are surprising to me. NRG is perhaps the most dominant team NA has to offer, but Rogue wants to change that. They can, too. The entire team is dangerous and I’m very eager to see their games at LAN. As for Selfless, they’re probably as high as they’ll get in the NA rankings, unless something shocking happens to Rogue and NRG. Selfless is a good team but the other two teams are better.

I hope you enjoyed this look at the recent power rankings. I will try to do this each week for both major rankings. If you have your own thoughts, please leave them in the comments below.
