Competitive Scene Update

10 years ago by QuestFerret in Esports

The competitive Rocket League scene has seen a few big changes over the past week, so in the run up to the second week of the RLCS Group Stages, let's take a look back at what's been going on.

RG eSports Split With Their Team

The reasons aren't clear, but RG eSports have agreed to mutually part ways with their players (Data, Seeks and Reganam) according to an official tweet from RG on Friday 13th. Earlier in the day Seeks had already confirmed the news, again on Twitter, and stated that the team will be reverting to the the 'Team Solid' name used prior to signing with RG.

Former RG coach Ryuu Tsubasa also stepped down from his position on Wednesday and almost immediately announced his signing for Mockit eSports as a coach for their EU side. He is credited for RG's recent success by many, so whether Team Solid will continue their meteoric rise remains to be seen, but we wish them the best of luck in the RLCS, Rocket Royale and beyond.

Mockingbirds Rebranded as Mockit International

For a while Mockit eSports have had a third team called the Mockingbirds consisting of Wrong_Way_Woody, Scrub Killa, Flarke and JohnnyBoi. It seems that their affiliation with Mockit isn't as widely known as it should be though. Wrong_Way_Woody confirmed to us last night that the Mockingbirds name will be dropped in favour of 'Mockit International' in future tournaments.

We've also had word that Bipod, FlipSid3 Tactics' substitute of choice, will be joining up with Mockit International whenever he isn't playing for FlipSid3.

VwS Gaming Acquire Checkmate

Checkmate are no more, as they'll now be playing under the VwS Gaming brand. VwS confirmed this deal on Twitter late last week. Napp, Tuster and J Knaps have been making solid in-roads to the top ten in recent weeks with several impressive Rocket Royale performances. With VwS behind them they'll be looking to consolidate their top ten power ranking position and build on it in future weeks.

Along with this news, VwS has had a small roster change. Tuster56 has left the team as he's too young to participte in the RLCS for now, and will be replaced by Corelli (formerly of Jorelli's Goodies) going forwards.

Chemistry Picked Up By Selfless Gaming

This one happened a while ago, but we've seen a few questions asked since. Chemistry (Amoney, Sizz, Matt, Chrome) were acquired by Selfless Gaming shortly before the beginning of the RLCS Group Stages last week. Selfless are best known for their Counter Strike: Global Offensive team, but the team formerly known as Chemistry certainly have talent, and we wish them the best of luck as they look to rise in the rankings.

The RLCS Partners with NZXT, Razer and Mobil 1

It didn't take long for the RLCS to attract some big name sponsors. Being Rocket League's first major eSports competition it looks like there was a race to get brand association with it and within a week three major organisations were involved in the broadcast. Razer and NZXT are two of the biggest names in PC gaming hardware, so to see them associated with the RLCS this soon bodes well for the future of competitive Rocket League. Mobil 1 are an international engine oil manufacturer that sponsor major racing championships, so while they aren't relevant to gaming to they do have a good link to the game.

NZXT are running an RLCS themed case giveaway this weekend to celebrate, you can find more about that on their Tweet from yesterday.
