App Doesn't give me notifications

I’ve had the app now for about 3 months and I’ve never had notifications but I told my brother about the app and when he got it, he had notifications. When I try and turn on notifications through the app it brings up an error message. Wondered if I should try to reinstall the app or if there was a fix for this?
