na Power Rankings {10/21/15 - 10/28/15}

Welcome to the Rocket League Power Rankings!

Each week, our committee will be ranking the best teams based on a variety of criteria as well as providing commentary on the teams who make it into the Top 10. The committee is comprised of players, content creators, fans, analysts, & coordinators to help diversify opinions and come to a general consensus. Each committee member has their own method for determining team rankings (ranging from stat-tracking to instinct), but they only count for a single vote since the individual ranks are averaged together. Each member will also list a team that didn't quite make the Top 10, but they feel is on the rise and should be watched.

While we do our best to ensure that we are fair and impartial, it is important to remember that these are just opinions and will most likely change weekly. If you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions, please send them our way. We’d love to hear from you!

Cosmic Aftershock

Roster: Kronovi, Gibbs, Sadjunior, KyleMasc?

With rumors abound regarding the addition of KyleMasc to the squad (whether as a sub or permanently), Cosmic Aftershock came out with a very solid showing in last Sunday's Rocket Royale tournament, leading the way for the NA scene. They took an early loss to the eventual winners Complain, but then fought tooth and nail to try and survive the perils of the Loser's Bracket. With a 2-1 win over Swarm Gaming, 2-0 win over Shazoo, & 3-1 win over rival squad Kings of Urban, they made it all the way to the Loser's Bracket Final before falling to the #2 squad FlipSid3 Tactics. KyleMasc showed up in a big way with some pivotal plays at the perfect time, especially in the game against his former team Kings of Urban. While I'm not sure exactly what the future holds for this group, I continue to expect great things and they continue to deliver.

vQ Untethered

Roster: Lachinio, Pluto, Vafele, SnakeCharmer113?

While some of you may be crying foul play about why vQU is still ranked higher than KoU, the answer in my opinion comes down to last minute subs not being a great representation of a team as a whole. I'm not calling SnakeCharmer out here, just as someone experienced in filling in as a sub, I know that it is not an easy feat. Vafele is not an easy player to reproduce, so the assimilation was less than perfect. Now, vQU hasn't been on top of their game as of late so it may be possible that after this weekend we see a repeat and vQU drop down a position.

Kings of Urban

Roster: Gambit, Fireburner, Jacob

What a great showing for the guys of Kings of Urban this week. With 2-0 victories over both Swarm Gaming and vQ Untethered, Kings of Urban is verging on the top two spots in this week's power rankings. After they split ways with Kyle, there was speculation at how well they would do with a different roster, but I see great things coming from Jacob and the guys of Kings of Urban. They are one of my favorite picks for this week's Rocket Royale, and we will see them Sunday as they had taken the 4th spot and therefore automatically qualify.

Orange Creamsicle

Roster: Edwind, Quinn Lobdell, ElmirFudd?

Who needs a set roster? Orange Creamsicle continue to have questions regarding their line-up yet managed to power through 2 higher seeded teams to qualify for last Sunday's Rocket Royale. There they lost to FlipSid3 Tactics and took a game off of vQ Untethered before being eliminated. The last team this squad was in the 4th spot they had Enigma_Please on their roster and were regularly finishing 3rd-4th in the weekly ESL cups. With ElmirFudd now filling that 3rd spot (for the time being), the future again looks bright for this squad. However, they'll need to follow up last week's unexpected run with another of equale quality as they have a number of teams nipping at their heels. Can OC hold claim to the 4th spot for another week or will the roulette for 4th place continue on?

Apollo 11

Roster: Huskih, Lars, Azi, PrimeThunder?

Apollo 11 fall for the 1st time in a few weeks, partially due to the loss to Orange Creamsicle in the Rocket Royale Qualifiers and partially due to having no other competitions as a team this past week. I personally give more credence to what a team has done lately over what they've done in the past, so A11 will need to return to their winning ways this week if they want to bounce back up the rankings. They'll have a great opportunity this weekend, though, with the RR Qualifiers, ESL, and Rocket Royale (should they make it).

Titanium Ricochet

Roster: Klassux, Cazaz911, WaZe_One87

Though I actually rated Titanium Ricochet a spot over Double Tap, it's actually quite fitting that they end up tied this week. Both teams have been pretty consistent over the past month as they typically beat the same teams and lose to the same teams, but rarely get a chance to play each other. They'll get that chance in the Rocket Royale Qualifiers this weekend, though, as they face each other in the very first match. Not only will that game determine who competes for a spot in Rocket Royale, but will likely decide which squad gets the higher ranking next week. I expect this rivalry game to be a good one as both squads continue to cement themselves in the upper echelon of Rocket League eSports teams.

Double Tap

Roster: Jamesbot, Flow, Sir Pancake III

Playing with a sub, DoubleTap fell to Battlecar Galactica in the finals of the NA ESL Cup this week. Jamesbot, he did a great job casting Rocket Royale by the way, was not available and DoubleTap still made it to the finals of the ESL; and because of that they deserve to retain their #6 spot. I look forward to the qualifier and I want to see DoubleTap make it to the Sunday tournament. They have the skills, it is just a matter of showing up to play on Saturday.

Battlecar Galactica

Roster: Matt, Sizz, Timbathy, Unique Syntax

Battlecar Galactica gave us a spectacular surprise last week after winning Sunday's ESL Cup #12. In what seemed to be a battle to get through each of their rounds since Ro16, BCG managed to defy all odds against them all the way through to the top. Obviously we should remember that we were missing the top 4 and some others Sunday, but BCG still had to play their way through TiRi, October Sky and an Edwind subbed Double Tap. Everything about Sunday gave BCG their right to be in our top 10, but we have to watch them carefully this week because they have been taken out by teams like Perfect Storm (RIP) and mMm Knockout.

Team Fresh

There wasn't much to go off of this week as Team Fresh's only notable match was a 3-2 close loss to Apollo 11. Going toe to toe with that group is definitely impressive, but with squads like October Sky, Mob Royalty, and Tres Plebitos pushing up from below them, they'll need to do much more than that if they want to remain ranked. They have demonstrated that they have the talent necessary to push up even higher, but need to work on consistency and building a more impressive body of wins at this point.

BK Randys

Roster: Air194, Evo, craid18, GriffinD_Mighty

After leap-frogging their way onto the Power Rankings last week, the BK Randys came extremely close to falling out of the Top 10 this week. They took Double Tap to game 5 in the Rocket Royale Qualifiers (though both teams were rocking a sub), but unfortunately missed the check-in cut-off for ESL Cup #12 and were unable to compete. Had they competed, they likely would have done pretty well but I can't give credit to a prediction, so they are essentially on thin ice at this point. As the saying goes... Just Win Baby!
