Welcome to the Rocket League Power Rankings!

Each week, our committee will be ranking the best teams based on a variety of criteria as well as providing commentary on the teams who make it into the Top 10. The committee is comprised of players, content creators, fans, analysts, & coordinators to help diversify opinions and come to a general consensus. Each committee member has their own method for determining team rankings (ranging from stat-tracking to instinct), but they only count for a single vote since the individual ranks are averaged together. Each member will also list a team that didn't quite make the Top 10, but they feel is on the rise and should be watched.

While we do our best to ensure that we are fair and impartial, it is important to remember that these are just opinions and will most likely change weekly. If you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions, please send them our way. We’d love to hear from you!

Kings of Urban

Roster: Fireburner, Jacob, Sadjunior

Well, Kings of Urban didn't really play this week. The End. Ok maybe I'll talk a bit more than that :P Since Mock-it NA's outburst in Rocket Royale, there has been more than just a little bit of discussion and questioning about whom is actually top dog in NA nowadays. So where do Kings stand? Well Cosmic is still showing their weaknesses as mentioned below, and the new rosters in NA have shown to be even stronger than what was previously in place. Kings of Urban have been one of the most consistent teams out there, a consitently great team. However, not often enough do we see them surpass that. I wouldn't say that they have been overshadowed by Cosmic's image as they are definitely recognized for all of the talent and actual proof behind their abilities, but they are yet to truly surpass the point of reliably being able to beat the EU scene; though this goes for everyone in NA. What we can hope for is that the LAN will provide us with that answer, but for now there's the lingering affect of latency on the matches that go across the pond. So unanswered questions will remain topics of deep thought and discussion until we see region leaders like KoU force their way into the RLCS LAN.

iBUYPOWER Cosmic

Roster: Kronovi, Lachinio, Gambit, 0ver Zer0*, Gibbs*

Still riding the gravitational waves of their impact, Cosmic Is just barely holding onto the after image of their RLCS dominance. However, times are changing and the new rosters have proven more than just stronger, but dominant even. So how did last week turn out for them? They grabbed a quick 2-0 against the rising Goomba Squad, a very close 3-2 against the newly polished Genesis, an easy 3-0 against Phoenix, and then into the international finals they didn't fair well. Their quick 1-3 and 0-3 losses against WDG and F3 respectively show that they are still struggling to make rotations and coordinated plays a hardcoded part of their style. There have been some great points brought up about Cosmic and how they played in RLCS vs some of their more recent appearances, such as: they weren't forced any mistakes during RLCS so they shined more so than usual, and in the most recent appearances teams have begun to learn how to force their weak spots. There is still much to be said about the current state of Cosmic, but I digress...

Mock-it NA

Roster: Insolences, Rizzo, Zanejackey, Low5ive, Chad*

Mockit won Royale. Talks of ping issues and throwing and international play aside, MockNA won this week's Royale. They played against some of the best teams in the world and have finally given us a reason to once again believe that they deserve to be at the top of this list with the likes of Kings and Cosmic. Their series showed a different mix than what we are used to with Low5ive handing his position off to the former Orbit player Zanejackey. To paraphrase Low's response when asked about the situation - "Going into Qualifier one, we had a rough time. There were issues (not just with me) in our play and we underperformed. I had asked Zane a while back to try out in my position, but he preferred to try to make it on his own... to try and make Orbit work. After he left, I reopened the invitation and the results showed through in this week's Royale. Zane will be moving forward with the team, and although we have got some work to do to in Qual 2, I have no doubt we'll be at the LAN come August.

Badger

Turbulence

Roster: Garrett, Turtle, Moses

"Urban, Mock-it, Cosmic, Bueller… Bueller… Bueller… Bueller… Since Turtle, Garrett and Moses have separated from Eanix and are currently nameless, I’ll just call them Bueller. Bueller had elected to stay under the radar this past week as they have been struggling with sponsorship negotiations. So, understandably, they have no official results to show with their new 3rd Moses. Bueller has been scrimming since the roster change and they plan to bust through the qualifier via a shiny red vintage Ferrari.

Genesis

Roster: Pluto, Quinn Lobdell, Espeon, HWS*, Kovanel*

To many, dropping two spots in the rankings would seem more than a low blow to the team's self esteem, but considering they were without a full roster a week back, staying in the top 5 should keep some smiles on the faces of this current Genesis roster. At the loss of Moses just days before RLCS signups closed, a rushed Genesis were able to bring in top player Espeon (formerly of Retrospect). In Royale they had some disappointing results early on and were forced to play iBP in groups because of it, but when given the challenge, they took the 1 seed through 2 straight games before getting reverse swept. They're not in an amazing position at the moment, and they still have issues with overcoming momentum, creating scoring opportunities, and some obvious communication errors. They did, however, show some potential as a squad, and we will more than likely be seeing these guys again in the following weeks.

Lucky Bounce

Roster: Timbathy, Darkfire, September, Torment

Despite the otherwise quiet week in NA professional Rocket League, Lucky Bounce was very active with a couple of noteworthy 2nd place finishes in Mockit and ESL. The only team they faced that's above them in the power rankings is Mockit NA who dealt them their 2nd place finish in Mockit 3v3. They did face Vision and Phoenix Infinity (now the new FakeOut Nation) in Rocket Royale where they dispatched Vision 2-0 and lost a close series to PXI 2-3. It's nice to see Lucky Bounce back in the fray. If they can keep riding their form from Royale two weeks ago then expect to see them in RLCS Groups.

Retrospect

Roster: Klassux, Genocop, Chrome, KyleMasc*

Ah, Retrospect. Another victim of the great NA shuffle of June, 2016. But perhaps victim isn’t the right word to use here. The new starting roster, consisting of Klassux, Genocop and Chrome, have had big smiles on their faces. While the team doesn’t have any official tournament results to boast yet, word is that Retrospect is doing very well in scrims against some top teams. Chrome reports close series scores against Turbulence and Genesis as well as series victories over Mock-it and KoU. The North American Rocket League scene has grown a lot from rebreaking the bone this past couple of weeks and I think Retrospect has the potential to be one of the pioneering teams in the pursuit of our regional pride. I look forward to seeing what results this roster can pull off during official tournament play in the coming weeks.

Empyreal eSports

Roster: Bell, Fireworks, ODJoey, ENIGMA_PLEASE

Empyreal eSports are the benefactors of Orbit (RIP) and Selfless (inactivity) no longer holding a spot in the top ten so they get a free 2 slot jump. They had a down week with the only recorded series wins were versus a pickup team in Rocket Royal (Mountain Climbers). Their losses were to Lucky Bounce (0-2), Mockit NA (0-3), Phoenix Infinity (0-2) and The Elect (0-1). What's concerning to me is that all of those losses were sweeps and teams below them on the list are getting better. Bad weeks happen. Shake it off and move forward.

FakeOut Nation

Roster: Haku, CorruptedG, Nexate, Fly*

Yet another shuffle. Haku comes out of his short time spent with the late Orbit and returns to FakeOut Nation. But… but it’s not the FakeOut Nation we all remember (which would include Menchaca and iOghma). This time Haku has teamed up with Nexate and CorruptedG (two thirds of the disbanded Phoenix Infinity). Once again, this is a team with no official records to show since they are such a fresh roster. I wonder about the lifespan of this team, but if they can stay together long enough to get used to each other, I think FakeOut Nation will be able to hold their own in the top 10 for quite some time.

Xylophone Zebras

Roster: Karma, LiquidRL, Sub'N, PingPongPete

Hey Diddle Diddle... Akin to an overly personified Lunar body, I too am upset about a bunch of heifers orbiting around this rim of space. To be honest, I don't believe the current FakeOut Nation team nor Xylophone Zebras belong in the top ten, but with the lack of teams that actually put out fair results this week, these former bubble bouncers have found a place in a noteworthy position. I don't have anything against this team (and the heifer joke was made simply to reinforce the upcoming puns // a.k.a. Karma/Sub'N please don't stab me), I just don't see either of these teams (nor the ones below them) making the top list with Orbit or Selfless still existing. I am totally open to teams making a name for themselves and will welcome the competition should these teams hold these positions any longer than 2 weeks. I will, however, bet everyone currently reading this that XyZ will not be here in 2 weeks time, and if I lose, I will personally rerecord the nursery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle" in Rocket League related context. I dare you XyZ. Bring it on... // Hey Little Yemen / This team is a Lemon / Zebras won't put up results / The little Badger laughs / While the other rankers gasp / Two weeks, then come the insults //
