eu Power Rankings {4/20/16 - 4/27/16}

Welcome to the Rocket League Power Rankings!

Each week, our committee will be ranking the best teams based on a variety of criteria as well as providing commentary on the teams who make it into the Top 10. The committee is comprised of players, content creators, fans, analysts, & coordinators to help diversify opinions and come to a general consensus. Each committee member has their own method for determining team rankings (ranging from stat-tracking to instinct), but they only count for a single vote since the individual ranks are averaged together. Each member will also list a team that didn't quite make the Top 10, but they feel is on the rise and should be watched.

While we do our best to ensure that we are fair and impartial, it is important to remember that these are just opinions and will most likely change weekly. If you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions, please send them our way. We’d love to hear from you!

Roster: Remkoe, gReazy, Maestro

Who would've guessed it!? We Dem Girlz is number 1! Nobody saw that coming I bet. It seems that We Dem Girlz is just chilling at the top of the power rankings with some mojitos whilst the 3 teams below them scrap about like peasants fighting for the throne. Whilst We Dem Girlz have now been beaten multiple times by both EU and NA teams, their continously impressive results means that they sit comfortable in that first place spot for another week. They picked up a few clean sweeps last week, including 2 3-0 wins over KA-POW, a 3-0 win over Eff0rt, two 3-0 wins over Retrospect, a 3-0 win over Kings of Urban and finally a 2-0 win over Supersonic Avengers. That's a lot of clean sweeps in one week, and that's not exactly against weak teams. These are all teams within the top 6 of their region. So, let's start it off with the big'un, Rocket Royale! They needed a bit of time to warm up, but boy did they get into it. In the group stages they 3-0ed KA-Pow, 2-1ed The Flying Dutchmen, but then lost 2-1 to Flipsid3. In the knockout stages they had a close shave with Mock-It EU, winning 3-2, but once they entered the International Finals...they just ruined everyone in sight. I mean they came strutting in with their gin & tonics, wearing their shades and shorts, and just walked all over everybody. They 3-0ed Kings of Urban, followed by 3-0ing Retrospect, and then Retrospect didn't have enough of a beating, apparently, since they came back from the losers bracket to lose 3-0 yet again, which means We Dem Girlz took their first Rocket Royale victory! We Dem Girlz played in both GFinity and Mockit last week as well. In Mock-It, We Dem Girlz won it all, beating both Supersonic Avengers and Flipsid3. In GFinity they took out KA-POW and Eff0rt but lost to Mock-It EU. This was their only loss in the entire week, which is impressive. (EDIT: Forgot to add in We Dem Girlz also lost to Crown & Jewels in PPL) I sense that We Dem Girlz will stick around in the #1 spot for a bit, but the gap between #1 and #2-#4 is very close nontheless, and the time will eventually come when a new team will take their place. The only question is: who will it be?

Mock-it eSports EU

Roster: Paschy90, Miztik, Sikii, Scrub Killa

Mock-it EU comes back into second place yet again and maybe to some people’s surprise. This week was pretty hard to figure out who deserved each spot in the ranks of 2-4 but Mock-it EU pulls ahead of Supersonic Avengers and Flipsid3 by a pretty narrow margin. The main reason why you see this jump in the rankings is due to their 2 solid performances in GFinity. I’ve been saying to a lot of people that GFinity used to be THE tournament for Flipsid3 Tactics to consistently win but ever since roster shuffles have been happening Mock-it EU have taken that spot. Their significant victory in each GFinity tournament includes wins over C&J, Unrivalled, Shazoo, and We Dem Girlz. Outside of Gfinity, Mock-it EU had a rough time of things. In the EU Mock-it League tournament they lost to Flipsid3 in the winners bracket and lost to Unrivalled in the loser’s bracket immediately afterwards. Pulsar Premier League was a similar story, Mock-it EU lost to Precision Z in what I can only assume was a close series. When it came to Rocket Royale, This team showed us why we have them at this rank by only dropping one game in the group stage to Crown & Jewels. This allowed them to move on to the knockout stage where they had to fight for survival against the #1 EU team We Dem Girlz, and they fought all the way to game 5 where they eventually fell. This was a performance that we expected from Mock-it EU to have last week but they couldn’t pull it together. The 2-4 spots in the Power Rankings are still in flux and any one of these teams can take this spot back.

Supersonic Avengers

Roster: ELMP, Snaski, Doomsee

I think that we’re in a really good spot with the EU power rankings right now. The 2nd through 4th position seem to be fluctuating on a weekly basis, as some teams have hot weeks and others cool off. In any given week, based on results, we can see the Supersonic Avengers, FlipSid3 Tactics and Mock-It (EU) all skirmishing for the number two spot. This week we see the temperature of the Supersonic Avengers dipping just a bit, down one spot, into the #3 rank in the power rankings. Whereas last week, SA soundly defeated Mock-It (EU) 5-0 at Rocket Royale, this week Mock-It EU swept them 3-0. The Avengers also didn’t assemble much a fight against FlipSid3 Tactics in Royale, losing 3-0 to them (however, the day before they did defeat F3 by a score of 3 to 1). Against the nigh-untouchable We Dem Girlz, SA didn’t fare much better; they managed to win 2 and lose 6 to them on aggregate this week. A few weeks back I was quite skeptical of the Supersonic Avengers. Their roster had been depleted by pre-RLCS rostergaeddon shenanigans, and they’d just pulled in a promising, but largely unproven Doomsee to bolster the squad. Their early games were disorganized as any newly formed club would be, and they showed some poor results against weaker Precision Z and Hard-On Colliders. The very next week they bounced back fiercely as they began to build an understanding. Even now, there appear to be communication gaffes that cost them games and hurt their position in the power rankings, but I can envision a time after they’ve worked out the kinks where they are able routinely sit in the number two spot.

Flipsid3 Tactics

Roster: Markydooda, Kuxir97, M1k3rules

Often times in chat there will be people popping in to ask how the F3 games have gone, and to their shock it's not the same undisputed champs that they used to be. Whether it's because the competition has caught up, or they've faltered, what I know is that there are some team dynamics with the FlipSid3 boys that need to be ironed out. I mean, it's become fairly apparent that a trip through the losers bracket is potentially deadly as we saw them lose 2-3 to a top NA team Retrospect, and then immediately fall into a clean sweep vs Kings of Urban; both of which were no match for WDG that Sunday. It used to be that F3 was at their strongest later on in the tournament stages, however, now it's more like there's a festering frustration that leads to an eventual tilt. They definitely still have their highs, and those highs are when they're the best out on the pitch, but when the lows strike, they're susceptible to falling to anyone within the top 5 of NA and EU

Crown & Jewels

Roster: Killerno7, Yeezy, Stocki, ViolentPanda, Rocketpower

Personally it feels like EU has a few different brackets within the rankings, and personally I perceive one from 1st to 5th place where these teams have been taking games off of each other quite regularly. While I don't see everyone in the bracket able to take the #1 spot, C&J has shown that they are able to take games off those above them. However, at times they're also dropping against teams they shouldn't be: like HoC, and where C&J is at right now I don't see any momentum up or down due to the uncertainty in the 6+ rankings. All in all, C&J needs to show up at their finest this weekend, and stay consistent because if they can do that, then they'd be able to pull something off that nearly all of the top 10 EU teams haven't been able to do.

Roster: al0t, Sniperkid138, Turbopolsa

The only noticeable win that KA-POW got this week was vs. Dot Dot Dot in GFinity, and it wasn't exactly a comfortable win either. They scraped by with a 3-2 finish. Bear in mind that Dot Dot Dot are currently an unraked team outside of the top 16, and KA-POW are currently 6th. Whilst they did win, there's no other results to further give reason to KA-POW being at #6 this week. Their current position this week is heavily influenceed by their performances in previous weeks and for the fact they haven't lost many matches to teams below them. They lost multiple times to higher ranked teams: We Dem Girlz, Flipsid3 Tactics, and We Dem Girlz again, all in clean 3-0 losses, but they did also lose to a team ranked below them, The Flying Dutchman. And it wasn't close either, they got dominated 3-0 during Rocket Royale. KA-POW would've been ranked lower this week if it wasn't for the fact that the 3 teams ranked below them didn't really do enough to justify them moving above KA-POW, not for one week's work anyway. However, what this week has certainly done is completely loosened up the #6 - #11 spot. This means that with any wins coming in from a lower ranked team over a higher ranked team this week, they will most certainly be moved up. KA-POW's shakey performances lately have caused them to stand on thin ice, and they could certainly fall a few spots next week if they don't pull something out of the bag

Precision Z

Roster: Tequilaz, Mikageishi, Dadooh

There have been very few changes at the lower half of the top 10 this week, and Precision Z are no exception. They remain 7th from last week, having not played many notable games. Of the games they played, there were some ups and downs, which was a feature of most teams around them, which resulted in the lack of change we’ve seen amongst these teams. They played in the Tuesday Gfinity tournament, beating JHZER’s new unofficial team containing Ryuk and Krazack, but then lost 0-3 to Crown and Jewels in the next round. As for the Friday Gfinity tournament, they lost 0-3 to Gentlemen, a rising team on the bubble. While this result was poor, they then comfortably beat 0effort 3-0 in ESL on Sunday, however then lost to JHZER’s team 2-3, having beaten them 3-0 so comfortably in Tuesday’s Gfinity. Despite this, they did beat Mockit EU 3-2 in this week’s game of the Pulsar Premier League, further pertaining to their inconsistent week. With a lack of results from Rocket Royale this week (They were unable to participate), there’s not a great wealth of results to go on with regards to their ranking. While they had a couple of poor results, so did literally every other team around them, warranting virtually no changes in the rankings. The lower half of the top 10 and a few teams outside appear to be on quite a similar level, and seem to be quite erratic in their consistency. With this in mind, it’s hard to predict the future of Precision Z in and amongst these other teams, but I’d imagine they’ll be in contention for reaching the group stages of the RLCS, when that swings by in a couple of weeks.

The Flying Dutchmen

Roster: Dogu, Jessiepinkmaan, PauliepauINL, Vogan

This was another week where I couldn’t see any teams deserving of the 6-8 spots regardless of the teams that fell into those spots. Dutchmen were helped by their Rocket Royale performance where they 3-0’d KA-POW but fell to We Dem Girlz (1-2) and Flipsid3 Tactics (0-3). Outside of their Rocket Royale performance The Flying Dutchmen didn’t perform to expectations. In GFinity on Friday they lost to an up-and-coming team in Gentlemen in the third round. Also in the Mock-it EU tournament they beat RG eSports but lost out to Supersonic Avengers and eventually lost in the loser’s bracket to Unrivalled. Hopefully we can see this team perform at a higher quality and make the 6-8 spots in the rankings worth fighting for.

Hard-On Colliders

Roster: Aeleksander, Jayless, Reteq

Hard-on Colliders remain 9th this week with a fairly mixed bag of results. They started off the week losing to Comrade in the ESL Monthly finals 2-3, albeit with Kaydop playing as a substitute. However, he has since played with them more, following Mummisnow’s departure from the team, so his presence may be a permanent thing. In the Pulsar Premier League, HoC played Crown and Jewels this week, losing 1-4. This is a fairly expected result, especially given how C&J managed to defeat WDG. As for Gfinity, their only notable result came against 0effort, in which they lost 1-3. Despite 0effort’s rise into the top 10 this week, this can be considered quite a disappointment. In Rocket Royale HoC were placed into a tough group with Mockit EU, Supersonic Avengers and Crown and Jewels. They managed to place 3rd, taking 3 games from said teams, all of which came against C&J. So despite the PPL result against this team, they bounce back with a strong performance. As this demonstrates, they had an up-and-down performance and therefore no movement with their rankings, especially given how other teams around them had similar results. Looking ahead, they’re now adapting to life without Mummisnow and so far have not looked that much worse really. As with most other teams in this area of the rankings, I expect there to be quite a mixture of results, with HoC having a fairly decent chance of qualifying for the RLCS group stage, coming up in a couple of weeks.

Roster: Tinny, Cheerio, kilEak, Dave

Once again I’ve taken the liberty of swiping the #10 position on the power rankings… what can I say? I really, really like talking about up-and-coming teams! Today I have the pleasure of introducing Tinny, Cheerio, kilEak, and Dave, members of a squad you likely haven’t heard the last of that goes by the name of Eff0rt. Eff0rt climb two positions, and waltz their way off the bubble and into the top ten. Just last week members of Eff0rt went on record, stating their disappointment with not moving up after a strong week, but this week they’re rewarded for their consistent, good play. Hands down, the most important decision that vaulted Eff0rt into the top ten was their convincing 3-0 GFinity walloping of Comrade, who held the #10 spot last week. After such a result, it would be criminal for the squad not to take their spot in the ratings. When you look at other similarly ranked teams, no one really took the bull by the horns and demanded the #10 position, allowing for Eff0rt to rise with minimal opposition. Where I do have concern is with their efforts against teams ranked higher in the power rankings. They went 0-3 against Precision Z, 0-3 against Crown & Jewels, 0-3 against We Dem Girlz and 0-2 against Mock-It (EU). If Eff0rt wants to continue to climb (or possibly even tread water) they’re going to have to start taking games off of some of these teams.
