na Power Rankings {4/27/16 - 5/4/16}

Welcome to the Rocket League Power Rankings!

Each week, our committee will be ranking the best teams based on a variety of criteria as well as providing commentary on the teams who make it into the Top 10. The committee is comprised of players, content creators, fans, analysts, & coordinators to help diversify opinions and come to a general consensus. Each committee member has their own method for determining team rankings (ranging from stat-tracking to instinct), but they only count for a single vote since the individual ranks are averaged together. Each member will also list a team that didn't quite make the Top 10, but they feel is on the rise and should be watched.

While we do our best to ensure that we are fair and impartial, it is important to remember that these are just opinions and will most likely change weekly. If you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions, please send them our way. We’d love to hear from you!

iBUYPOWER Cosmic

Roster: Kronovi, Lachinio, Gambit

With team Captain Kronovi and Coach Gibbs away at PAX this weekend, Gambit and Lachinio decided against playing with a sub. As of right now ths new line up is pretty much still that, a new team and because of that it makes it difficult to decide to keep them at #1. However, we can't deny the domination that we have seen from them. So even after a week of nothing, the lead that they had from 1 to 2 was something like this 1 >>> 2, however now it has dwindled to 1 > 2 due to KoU's strength. Should we see a less than expected weekend for iBP, I wouldn't be suprised if KoU jumped on the opportunity to sit back on the comfy throne that they carved their name in not that long ago. P.S. I'm totally stoked to potentially see Mock-it EU + F3 + KoU + iBP in the Rocket Royale international finals as a rematch of the RLC PL semis :D

Kings of Urban

Roster: Fireburner, Jacob, Sadjunior

Kings of Urban have spent the last few weeks in a desperate fight with Mock, Orbit and Onslaught for the #2 spot on the rankings. The rankings committee struggled to put one over the others week after week, but I think that on this iteration of the power rankings we have Kings grabbing a solid second place. 3-0 sweeps of 2nd place competitior Orbit, wins over slightly lower ranked NA teams in the Rocket Royale such as VexX, No Clue and Checkmate and a playoffs berth in which they defeated both Onslaught and Supersonic Avengers had Kings really show off what they can do. With even more opportunities to play coming in the near future I look forward to seeing whether Kings will solidify their second place standing, or perhaps even move up to challenge iBP in coming weeks.

Onslaught eSports

Roster: Klassux, Huskih, Flow, Espeon, KyleMasc

When one door opens for Onslaught it seems like another slams right in their face. After a successful run through the Rocket Royale group stage this past Sunday, Onslaught had the misfortunate of facing off against EU powerhouse We Dem Girlz, and eventual runner-up Kings of Urban. Though they never were swept in either of those series, Kings of Urban just edges over Onslaught with that matchup. As I generally reiterate every week though, one series is hardly the difference anymore between teams, especially those at the top. Hopefully with their outstanding lineup depth, they will find a lot of opportunity to close that gap once and for all with the weekly Rocket Royale format.

Mock-it eSports NA

Roster: Insolences, Low5ive, Rizzo

While I'm not sure how Low5ive and Rizzo performed at any Rocket League tournaments at PAX East, Mockit eSports NA didn't partake in any official competition last week. You may have noticed they dropped two spots (they were tied with Kings of Urban at #2), but don't be fooled as Kings of Urban and Onslaught had great weeks and Mockit NA's drop in ranks has more to do with those two teams having good weeks than Mockit NA's inactivity. They still sit firmly rooted among teams like Kings of Urban, Onslaught, and Orbit; any of whom can vie for the second spot any given week. Now that the RLCS and its unprecedented proving grounds for the best teams in the world, we will have one more stage on which to see Mockit NA showcase their skill. And boy are they a fun team to watch.

Orbit

Roster: Zanejackey, Genocop, HotWheelsSid, Stev

Orbit has had some really rough weeks recently which has led to a fairly surprising fall from #2 (thoug hat one point I had them selected at #1) to their positioning now at #5. I know that it's evening out, and maybe they just had some adjustments that they've figured out, but the dark horse that was upsetting teams left and right hasn't been able to pull the unexpected results their way. In fact they ran into one team during RR that caught a lot of us off guard, and that team was Checkmate. Otherwise if we drop that loss off it has mostly been Orbit falling short against the 2-4 teams this week, which really just shows us that they're still in the race for turning up their performance and jumping up some positions. However today + this week in general, they have the opportunity to wash off all negative vibes they had and turn it into some real results with RLCS and RR, because if anything right now is the time to prove what you're worth

Genesis

Roster: Pluto, Quinn Lobdell, Moses, Kovanel

Genesis is a mixture of 3 tested NA pros whom have seen the top of the rankings and know how to beat the best of the best, but the execution so far has left something to be desired. While I really do like watching their streams and I see that their team communication is pretty strong, they faltered on Sunday's Rocket Royale and it showed that they aren't able to consistently win face offs against the 3-5 teams. I'd say that even though they sit pretty strongly at #6, it's anywhere but where Gensis thinks they should be as a team. Genesis knowns what they're capable of and are using their evaluations of their performances to fine tune themselves to find that sweet spot which I believe will bring them to contesting more wins against the top 5 teams in NA.

VexX Gaming

Roster: Jayyyrah, Garrett, Turtle, Kuniv

Jayyyrah Garrett and Turtle didn't do too much in the way of competing this week, with no mention of them on the ESL bracket. However, the one tournament they did attend went pretty well, making it out of the group stages in Rocket Royale. Despite being swept 3-0 by Onslaught, they pulled it back with a 2-1 over Genesis to meeet Kings of Urban to the knockouts stage. There, they suffered a 3-0 sweep, but considering how hot Kings were running in that Royale it's an understandable loss. The three have have some good performances and their win over Genesis in the group stages shows they have potential to be competing with some teams even higher on the power rankings, but at the moment they just seem to struggle to have good performances over teams like Kings and Onslaught, which would really bring them into contetion for the #2-#5 positions.

Part_Timer

Checkmate

Roster: J_Knaps, Napp, Tuster56, Timi_F

Taking the spot as the most unlikely story to come out of the Rocket Royale groups, previously ranked 10 Checkmate finds themselves at a comfortable position in the Top 8. Though they finished their group stage with a negative record, they were the only team to take a game off Kings of Urban, and continued that impressive push with a series win over Orbit and a 1-2 loss to close-contender No Clue. Though they were knocked out later in a close 2-3 series by Onslaught, Checkmate has really put themselves on the map as a potential threat to even the highest of teams. Moving forward to RLCS, this squad looks like it might just have a shot at the top 4 if they can manage to close out their results against the top teams.

No Clue

Roster: Azi, Chrome, Sadkoala, PrimeThunder, Knuggs

Purely looking at last week's results, No Clue finally got to dip their toes into the big boys league, othewise known as Rocket Royale, and honestly it went about as expected. Even though we do love to see these underdog teams come out and smack around a few unsuspecting teams, it just wasn't the case for No Clue last week. And this week? Well unfortunately we can't add those to these rankings, but let's just say that No Clue has made an about face on that. But here's the thing, some of the teams above NC are slipping which gives NC an opening in this crucial point of RL. Right now they're at the #8 spot, which is what they need for a position in the RLCS Grou Stage, so any advantage they can get is definitely needed. Looking into stats, NC dropped the ball a bit in the losers bracket of MIL, though honestly a 1 and done with technical issues is pretty tough to deal with, but aside from that they snagged a game off of Orbit but lost 1-2, fell pretty heavily to Kou 0-3, and secured a 2-1 over the ""real deal"" (as Cloud said) Checkmate. Overall in recent weeks we've seen some fairly consistent placings (when technical issues don't strike) so if they keep creeping forward, they'll eventually sneak up on some of these teams above them. However, this is all hypothetical and of course this week is the week to show off what they're really about!

Phoenix Infinity

Roster: CorruptedG, Lethamyr, Nexate, KingRanny

First off, welcome to the Top Ten, Phoenix Infinity!!! Secondly, congratulations on winning ESL! Phoenix Infinity shot through ESL this week knocking off (takes deep breath) MRK (2-0), Hot Singles in Your Area (2-1), R3BL eSports (3-1), Fusion (3-0), Vision(3-1), Lucky Bounce (3-0), and Kindergarden (4-3). This team has been building steam for the last few weeks and they've been holding steady in the bubble. A performance like theirs in ESL is enough to simultaneously launch them into the tenth spot as well as show to the community that they're a team worth keeping an eye on.
