na Power Rankings {2/3/16 - 2/10/16}

Welcome to the Rocket League Power Rankings!

Each week, our committee will be ranking the best teams based on a variety of criteria as well as providing commentary on the teams who make it into the Top 10. The committee is comprised of players, content creators, fans, analysts, & coordinators to help diversify opinions and come to a general consensus. Each committee member has their own method for determining team rankings (ranging from stat-tracking to instinct), but they only count for a single vote since the individual ranks are averaged together. Each member will also list a team that didn't quite make the Top 10, but they feel is on the rise and should be watched.

While we do our best to ensure that we are fair and impartial, it is important to remember that these are just opinions and will most likely change weekly. If you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions, please send them our way. We’d love to hear from you!

iBUYPOWER Cosmic

Roster: Kronovi, Sadjunior, Gibbs

RLC uses "bye", it's super effective! We'll see Cosmic playing short handed for the next two weeks with Gibbs gone on adventures. Amoney will fill Gibbs' shoes so it is unknown what style of play Cosmic will apply with a more aggressive third. Should be fun to watch! Oh yea they play some team called Queens of Urban this week for RLC. Should be EZPZ. ;)

Gibbs

Kings of Urban

Roster: Fireburner, Jacob, Moses

It should come at no surprise that Kings of Urban stands toe to toe with iBP Cosmic for the #1 spot in North America on the cusp on their head-to-head meeting at the RLC Pro League on Sunday. This is a team that used all of their last second heroics and clutch play to hold off an extremely formidable Untethered squad last week and continues to look like the best team in NA. With Cosmic as the only team in their way, Kings will proceed to either claim sole ownership of that top spot or fall back to #2 following Sunday's Pro League set.

Shalthis

Untethered

Roster: Lachinio, Vafele, Pluto

If there was ever a series that was deceptively closer than the final series score suggested, it would be Untethered's matchup against Kings of Urban from the RLC Pro League. Though they would lose the series 4-1, the perserverence Untethered would show in that set of games, forcing every match down to the last moment and making every second count, helped prove why they deserve to be the #3 team in NA this week. This is a team revitalized, looking to challenge the best in NA. After Sunday's showing, they could very well be one of the most difficult teams to beat that they used to be.

Failure To Launch

Roster: Genocop, Zanejackey, HotWheelsSid

Only just 2 weeks ago were people starting to worry that FtL would fall under a similar spell that we saw with on particular team in the MLG Pro league. Despite the close matches that FtL put up against iBP and KoU, the lingering thought of that daunting 0-10 hitting their morals too hard to gain a win was quickly thrown away as soon as they pulled a reverse sweep against Mock-it and then a 4-1 against OC. So where does that put present day FtL? Well a very strong 3rd place in the Pro league, that's where. Granted FtL only has 2 more series ahead of them: A11 and Untethered, both of which are strong contenders for making the playoffs as well. The odds may every so slightly be in FtL's favour, however they need to keep up the pace they've shown with their full squad.

Orange Creamsicle

Roster: Edwind, Quinn Lobdell, Gambit

Will Orange Creamsicle actually field their full roster? They have fielded their full roster only one week of the Pro League and that week they lost all 5 games to KOU. I'm not sure if its a roster problem or just OC as a whole is playing worse. Hopefully the full OC can come back in these remaining weeks and fight for a playoff spot but honestly, its looking rough for them. They need some big 4-1's in these next few weeks to have a chance for playoffs. Their opponent's are Apollo, Cosmic, and Untethered. They need to come out of this stretch a few games over .500 to make playoffs. Time to grind!

Gibbs

Apollo 11

Roster: Huskih, fl0w, Azi, PrimeThunder, Lars

Apollo 11 tried changing up their starting line-up a bit this past week by moving PrimeThunder back into the action and managed to come out on the better side of a 4-1 win over Mock-It eSports. They also turned in a few losses, though, at the hands of Double Tap and Untethered so it will be interesting to see if they stay with this current line-up a little longer or if they change things up again. Prime is known to be one of the best in the business when it comes to sheer mechanical skill and he was certainly putting some of that skillful mastery on display in this past weekend's RLC Pro League. Huskih, Azi, and Flow are no slouches in the skill department, however, and are some of the best non-veteran talent around in the Rocket League community. Having the ability to switch up your starting roster due to a surplus of talented players is definitely an intriguing angle, but building up team synergy and synchronizing together is crucial for winning at the highest level. Even with the losses, this week looked a lot better for Apollo 11 than weeks past and is hopefully the start of a trend upwards for the team.

Mock-It eSports

Roster: Klassux, Low5ive, KyleMasc

NoT (aka Never on Target) is not NoT anymore as they have been sponsored by Mock-It eSports. Alas, the days of heckling and mocking their team name's interesting acronym are now over. They're now starting over fresh with a new look and a new name, but unfortunately their first bout of action with the new digs landed them on the wrong side of a 1-4 loss to Apollo 11. Stats show that not NoT... errrr I mean Mock-It eSports... haven't been the most consistent once getting behind in a series. They've certainly shown that they can hang with the best by beating teams like Untethered and iBUYPOWER Cosmic, but they've also shown that they are susceptible to losses from teams ranked well below them. This sort of inconsistency makes it difficult to get a solid read on the team and properly rank them. They're still in the hunt for a shot at the RLC Pro League playoffs and could absolutely be a contender if they can harness that team chemistry they had in weeks past.

Turbulence

Roster: Turtle, Jayyyrah, Air

Finally Turbulence has an officail third in Air. Thank the lord, now I can rank them more accurately, hooray. Turbulence has been doing very well in ESL's including the victory this week. They are the premier team outside the Pro League as of now and teams inside the Pro League should be worried about them in future events. These guys can ball. I expect to see them continue to do well until they can get more matches in against the Pro League teams. Once they can regularly compete with those teams I could see them climbing the ranks even further

Gibbs

Foremost

Roster: Wildeeman, Knuggs, GarrettG

Honestly last week's ESL rankings was a bit skewed by the guys over at 50 Shades of Crimson Blue (ie Gibbs + Amoney + Doomsee), so deciding on the 9-12 was a bit difficult in my opinion. Moving on from that, Foremost struck an unfortunate 0-3 against Cosmic in the quarters of ESL #27, but they are still holding strong from what they were able to accomplish last week. This obviously won't hold for long though, so with Saturday's upcoming ESL month finals, Foremost will have to battle against the hungry teams below them and give a performance worth of their current position.

Dirkened

Weebs on Wheels

Roster: Conundrum Effect, Haku, Homebad

I'll take blame for this 3-way tie at 10th, but honestly it's so difficult to choose from these 3 due to their strong wins and close loses in ESL. Looking specifically at WoW and their losses this week: they made it into the semis but lost to Double Tap 1-3, and then got 4th against Cosmic 1-4. That's not so bad, especially with a 3-0vs ECN and 3-0 vs Heroes of Time. Taking a look back to last week as well, they had similar wins, but a loss against the now disbanded Moon Men. It was a slow decline since their appearance in the ESL Grand Finals, but they haven't fallen off too quickly are definitely have a chance at redemption on Saturday

Ascension

Roster: Ash Ketchum, Corelli22, GoodCallDrew, DarkFireBrah

Oh boy Ascension. This squad has been on the brink for months now, and given this 3 way tie for 10th, they are in a tough position because they are the only team out of these three that wasn't able to qualify into the ESL Monthly Finals (and by just 5 points at that!). So if they weren't able to make their way into the monthly, what's keeping them at this level? Well honeslty it comes down to a lot of close wins against teams ranked higher than them, and even upset wins as well. Looking at their week in performance they had a notable win against FtL (Chaupt subbed for Sid) and then took Turbulence to game 5. Looking ahead, I hope to see these guys keep up with all of the rising 8-12 teams because if so, the NA scene will really be booming.

Dirkened

Double Tap

Roster: Digital, Espeon, Dooble, Jamesbot

In a surprising 3 way tie, Double Tap have made it in to the Top 10 of the Power Rankings! For those of you who may not know, Double Tap was originally a squad created by Jamesbot with Sir Pancake III and Flow. They played in several ESL cups and eventually made enough moves to catch the attention of the Power Ranking Committee and earn a mainstay in the Top 10. They unfortunately disbanded after a long run in the Top 10, but Jamesbot reached out to another squad (originally known as Hello?) and offered to have them continue the name, social media accounts, and branding design. Fast forward a few weeks and now they've added Dooble and Jamesbot to their roster and are doing an incredible job at making their way up the ranks. The win over Apollo 11 and narrow loss to Kings of Urban certainly helped to propel this squad to the Top 10 and if they keep up this level of proficiency then they are likely to be ranked even higher next week.
