na Power Rankings {1/13/16 - 1/20/16}

Welcome to the Rocket League Power Rankings!

Each week, our committee will be ranking the best teams based on a variety of criteria as well as providing commentary on the teams who make it into the Top 10. The committee is comprised of players, content creators, fans, analysts, & coordinators to help diversify opinions and come to a general consensus. Each committee member has their own method for determining team rankings (ranging from stat-tracking to instinct), but they only count for a single vote since the individual ranks are averaged together. Each member will also list a team that didn't quite make the Top 10, but they feel is on the rise and should be watched.

While we do our best to ensure that we are fair and impartial, it is important to remember that these are just opinions and will most likely change weekly. If you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions, please send them our way. We’d love to hear from you!

Roster: Kronovi, Sadjunior, Gibbs, Amoney (RPL)

Oh boy was this one a tough call this week. In their first showing in the RLC Pro League, Cosmic started off their run in the NA division with a dominant 5-0 sweep against the underdog hopefuls Failure to Launch, followed by a 3-1 victory over NOT for their IRCL match. In the previous week, no team managed to take more than one game off the NA titans during their roll through ESL, only dropping three total matches that Sunday. The real difficulty in ranking Cosmic at the top this week were the equally impressive results from Kings of Urban. While Kings have beaten Nexus twice since the last rankings, their 3-1 and 3-2 wins over Failure to Launch and NOT respectively just ever so slightly puts them below Cosmic. This next week's matchups in the RLC Pro League will be crucial for both squads, as each team plays the other's previous opponents. Cosmic especially will need a very convincing series against NOT if they want to reign again as unanimous champions of NA.

Kings of Urban

Roster: Fireburner, Jacob, Moses

Looks like I am in the minority to have Kings at #1 this week. Let me explain my reasoning! Kings over the last 3 weeks or so had a bit tougher of a schedule than Cosmic did. They beat Nexus twice (once with a sub), Voltage, NOT, Failure, and Ubiquitas. Cosmic beat NOT, Failure, Divine Entity, Lucky Bounce, Redline, Goomba, and Syntactics. Cosmic performed slightly better with common opponents. Cosmic beat NOT and Failure a combined 8-1 while Kings beat them a combined 6-3. Over the past weeks I have a very minor edge to Cosmic because of that differential and Kings almost losing to Nexus with a sub (4-3). Before those 3 weeks Cosmic was trending down slightly with recent losses to Nexus and NOT. I had Kings in front of Cosmic in my last ranks so I decided the difference was so slim in Cosmic's favor that it did not warrant me putting them ahead of Kings. Kings also hasn't lost in about 2 months or so. They may be looking shakey here or there but they win when they need too. This next week in the RPL will be a big decider if Kings or Cosmic is #1 in my eyes. Since they play each other's week 1 opponent. Whoever is on top after this week in the standings will likely get the #1 spot.

Roster: Klassux, Low5ive, KyleMasc

Never on Target, or NOT, had some integral games these past weeks that unanimously set them at their third place slot. With the first week of the RLC Pro League in the books, NOT faced a difficult gauntlet of opponents in Kings of Urban and the highly anticipated series against iBP Cosmic for IRCL. With Kings taking the series 3-2 in the RLC Pro League, and Cosmic winning the IRCL match 3-1, there was little debate as to why they are placed 3rd in this week's rankings. With all NOT puns aside... I have no doubt that these guys have what it takes reclaim their top spot, and their rematch against Cosmic this Sunday is the perfect place to start. NOT has shown countless times that they can, and have, beat any team in NA, but only time will tell if NOT can beat the best to become the best.

Roster: Lachinio, Vafele, Pluto

Are Lachinio, Pluto, and Vafele playing together in this event? This is always a question that seems to be asked of Nexus and truthfully I have asked this question a few times myself. When all of them play together they can truly be a fearsome team to behold, the most important word is "When". With Pluto volunteering during the RLC Pro League Insolences has been putting in work as the teams primary sub in not only the RLC Pro League but in the ESL monthly finals as he has been a very solid player. With great wins in the ESL monthly finals against Foremost (Unknown) 3-2 and Moon Men 3-1 they had a hard fought series against KoU that they lost in game 7. In the IRCL however, KoU continued their undefeated streak with a 3-0 shutout against Nexus. In the RLC Pro League Nexus had a hungry SnK esports team ready to get off to a good start. The Nexus vs SnK series in my opinion was the most exciting one to watch and with Lachinio winning the 5th game in a stunning OT, Nexus showed why they should be rated 4th. This sunday could be one for the ages as Nexus faces off against Orange Creamsicle in the RLC Pro league in the battle for the top 4.

Orange Creamsicle

Roster: Edwind, Quinn Lobdell, Gambit

OC got their Bye this week which is a bit problematic for their standings as they haven't played any time in the recent history. While it won't be a problem this week, they are tip toeing on a tight rope if their performance is less than favorable. Speaking of, OC is looking at a rematch from their qualifiers games against nXs which will obviously be a hyped match to determine who theoretically takes the #4 or #5 spot in our NA power rankings. As was part of the purpose of the RLC Pro League, all of us fans and spectators will get a chance to watch the best matches casted and no teams will miss out the action!

SnK Apollo

Roster: Huskih, fl0w, Azi, PrimeThunder, Lars

SnK Apollo land in the 6th spot this week and end up in a tie with Failure To Launch. I personally had Apollo at 8th this week due to a variety of circumstances, but it mainly stemmed from the 0-3 loss against Voltage (with magicgoodies as a sub for Flow) and other teams that were previously ranked below them having a better resume over the last few weeks. Taking nXs to 5 game in the RLC Pro League would have been a bit more impressive if Pluto had played, but Insolences is certainly a very solid player and SnK definitely showed that they weren't going out without a fight. I have no doubt that SnK Apollo can (and likely will) bounce back quickly. Their roster features some of the best new / non-SARPBC vet talent and with a strong showing in their upcoming RLC Pro League / IRCL matches they could very easily start trending upwards again.

Failure To Launch

Roster: Mecha, Zanejackey, Genocop

Failure to Launch holds a place dear to my heart, and as the newest mainstay of the Power Rankings, they're looking to launch up the rankings even more. While their 0-5 loss to iBP Cosmic this past week was rough on paper, Failure to Launch put up a great fight in each game against a ridiculously in-form Cosmic lineup. Meanwhile their rough draw in the ESL Monthly Finals to a first round Kings of Urban proved to be a close series, with Failure to Launch taking a solid game in their 1-3 loss. This squad has a tough rematch ahead of them this week against Kings of Urban, but if they manage to steal a few games off of the favorites, this underdog team might not stay that way for long.

Moon Men

Roster: Amoney, ENIGMA_PLEASE, Kerupt

Uh, Houston? I think we forget our men on the moon. We haven't heard much from Moon Men since the qualifiers. They did play in the monthly final, beating Sustenance 3-1 but falling to a Nexus squad with a sub 3-1. Both games didn't really show too much in terms of rank for Moon Men besides obviously being behind Nexus. They still rank in the top 10 because of the skill we believe this team has. Hopefully they come back and play some ESLs to see if they are just as strong as they looked during the qualifiers.

Roster: Turtle, jayyyrah

Turbulence tears up the NA ESL brackets with a superb performance from all of their members leading them to the top. Even with Huskih dropping in after Jayyyrah had to get back to work, the crew worked like a well oiled machine. Honestly I have to say though, Turtle has been able to pull off incredible feats that you wouldn't have really expected if you hadn't been hearing about him, so to see him and his team finally getting to a point of recognition is really what I've been hoping for since I listed the squad as my team to watch some time ago. There's a lot of work to be done but these guys show a lot of potential, however, what is holding them back right now is how they will find matches against the teams that are in the RLC PL.

Welcome back to the Top 10, Voltage! With a 3-0 win over SnK (Magicgoodies subbing for Flow) and a 3-1 win over Foremost (who beat Failure to Launch [4-2] a few week back and took nXs to 5 games), Sub'n & crew did enough to barely squeak into this week's Top 10. Unfortunately, they are a team that doesn't turn in a very consistent resume as they'll beat some top teams and then lose to some teams ranked well below them. Coupling that with the fact that they don't plan as often as many other teams makes it very difficult to get a good read on the team. I can say, however, that they are one of those teams that teams don't want to see on their side of the bracket when they are playing up to their potential because they've been known to compete with some of the best in the NA scene. Only time will tell if this squad will finally put together a long enough run to make their stay in the Top 10 a more permanent arrangement or if they fall back out again.
