oce Power Rankings {6/10/16 - 6/17/16}

Welcome to the Rocket League Power Rankings!

Each week, our committee will be ranking the best teams based on a variety of criteria as well as providing commentary on the teams who make it into the Top 10. The committee is comprised of players, content creators, fans, analysts, & coordinators to help diversify opinions and come to a general consensus. Each committee member has their own method for determining team rankings (ranging from stat-tracking to instinct), but they only count for a single vote since the individual ranks are averaged together. Each member will also list a team that didn't quite make the Top 10, but they feel is on the rise and should be watched.

While we do our best to ensure that we are fair and impartial, it is important to remember that these are just opinions and will most likely change weekly. If you have any questions, thoughts, or suggestions, please send them our way. We’d love to hear from you!

Nuovo Gaming

Roster: Bango, SnarfSnarf, Montyconnorr

“Hey!” “Suh, dude.” “Did Nuovo win this week?” “Dammit Frank” Is basically how I think the conversation would go to someone who didn't watch the NuovoCGp game this week. In usual style, Nuovo take the series against inVid 4-1 to the surprise of no one but Penor’s Canadian Citizenship. Nuovo just seem to be cruising their way through CGp right now asking for another martini. Next week, we have Nuovo and Alpha Sydney going head to head, both undefeated so far. Alpha Sydney are the closest to taking a series off Nuovo who are at the time of writing this, undefeated with a 3-2 in the HEYGRL Playoffs a few weeks ago. This is the first time we see Legacy drop from first place in the Oce Power Rankings since its inception in october of last year. With new committee member brings new opinions and views and even with both teams coming off with wins this past round they drop to 2nd place unanimously.

Roster: Soma, eren, Orion

Overall, another relaxed week for legacy with the casual 5-0 win over Heart and Swole, who even though played with a sub, put up a good fight. But, winners consistently get the job done and that’s what Legacy did this week. But Legacy have dropped to second for the first time this week and boy does it look odd. Though the rankings may be unanimous, I feel as if it’s still extremely difficult to divide these two teams. Two of the best teams in OCE at the moment playing some beautiful, highly technical Rocket League. Will we ever be able to comfortably separate these two? Only time will tell. This upcoming month gives us a lot of good games to look forward to with the possibility of these two playing against each other more than once. Objectively speaking though, Nuovo deserve to be at the top.

Alpha Sydney

Roster: Dumbo, Dicky, Stoney

Alpha Sydney continue their incredible Cyber Gaming run this week with a 3 - 2 victory over Another One, securing their position among the top of the CyberGamer ladder, and this week’s power rankings.Alpha Sydney have shown that they have got what it takes to be the very top, but are continually dropping games in their series, making it much harder for themselves. They are some of the most talented individual players in Oceania with the potential to make it to number 1, but they will need to work on their synergy and consistency to get there. This week will be their next big test as their opponents will be the indomitable Nuovo Gaming. In their last showing, Alpha Sydney lost an incredibly close series 2 - 3 against Nuovo in the Gamestah Rocket League Grand Finals, and they are going to be hungry for revenge.

Abyss eSports

Roster: Addzey, Express, TheSchoolBus, Daze

Abyss have been consistently doing well, and this week proves no exception, beating Ripple 4 - 1 in their Cybergamer match, and taking 1st place in Rocket League Oceania VIII with a 3 - 1 series against Ripple and a 2 - 0 series against Gameroos.Abyss are continuing to look strong as a tier 1 team and have the potential to climb higher, but they need to prove themselves against the big 3. They have that chance this week with their first full head to head against the second place powerhouse Legacy eSports. Needless to say, it will be an exciting series and a must watch for anyone interested in Oceanic Rocket League.

Roster: French Fries, Coleslaw, Sparks

Only one showing from inVidious this past week, that being their CGp match against the dominant Nuovo losing the series unsurprisingly 4-1. This puts inVid at 2-1 alongside the likes of Abyss and Legacy. InVid have definitely picked up their game after their losses during the offseason by claiming 2 series so far in CGp, this puts them in the running for the 3rd or 4th spot in the finals with Nuovo and Alpha Sydney ahead both having taken the first 3 rounds. But things could change by the finals as the only thing separating those top 2 teams is 1 series, not much considering that could be tied up in the next round this coming Wednesday and Thursday. Overall inVid have put in a good showing and if they keep up the practice and results you bet we can see them in the finals 8).

Another One

Roster: Cyrix, OssyOsbert, The Stig

This week, Another One showed that they still have their spark, shaking off the poor performances of the past few weeks. We saw Another One losing a very close series against the on fire Alpha Sydney in their Cybergamer professional (CGp) match, followed by winning a dominant series against Ripple to win the Gameroos Tuesday tournament.Another One’s aggressive, rotation based playstyle appears to require consistent practice, and if they can keep it up, expect them to be moving up the power rankings soon. They are the favourites going into their match against Heart and Swole and will be looking to win the rest of their matches to be able to make the CGp grand finals.

Ripple eSports

Roster: Fachy, Fake, Siki, Seeker

It appears that Ripple eSports have finally settled into their new lineup and are looking to take names once more. Unfortunately for them it has been a rather lacklustre week for a team of their calibre, losing to Abyss 4 - 1 (using a sub) in their Cybergamer pro match and 3 - 1 in Rocket League Oceania VIII, as well as losing to Another One in Gameroos Tuesday. Not everything was bad news as they did need to win their way to the grand final against some up and comers before taking these losses. Next week will be a big one for Ripple eSports. Having settled into their roster, they will be tested by the Erase One Day Competition, Winter Championship Qualifiers #2 and a highly anticipated match against Invidious. Good results are going to be essential for Ripple in all of these if they want to stay at the top.

Control eSports

Roster: Drippay, Daisu, Turtle

These boys have impressed lately with a great deal of wins across the week and seem to be finding some good form just in time for the upcoming RLOC Invitational Qualifiers.Throughout this week Control came out swinging with a 3-2 win against Gameroos which was then followed by a 5-0 sweep against Team Erase – Venom. They also competed in this week’s Gameroos Thursday Tournament in which they started off shaky in the group stage but pulled it together, scoring wins against Mayne and Chef( Dogpa, aoe_emp, Klaus). Control are definitely a team to look out for and with some good practicing they could well be challenging some of the higher place CGp teams for their spot very soon.

Gameroos XD

Roster: yumi_cheeseman, aoe_emp, DaBeastXD

Gameroos seem to be very momentum-dependent in their play. When they’re scoring, they typically score in rapid-fire succession, but it frequently goes the other way, with teams putting not just one, but several goals onto them before they are able to switch the momentum around. That said, their match against Control had several Overtime games and the whole series was a nailbiter through to the finish. I think their main issue might be how they shoot at goals: it’s about quantity, not quality. When their opponents are on tilt, the quantity approach pays dividends. But when faced with tougher opponents, quality is what counts. There were indications of this with yumi_cheeseman’s demo-into-check goal assist against Abyss, which created the goal scoring opportunity, rather than relying on Abyss’ defense to lapse. Gameroos should work on creating more of those situations where the defense against them has to guess more which way the ball is going to go, or what the Gameroos are going to do.

Team furoX

Roster: Kapow_power, Ultra, Outlast

What a season for furoX. Previously known as team unlimited, they have just picked up a new sponsor, and at the same time extend their Cybergamer win streak by taking a dominating 5 - 0 series against Supremacy (Subbing in flip). Unlimited are poised to take CGi by storm, and are at this point all but guaranteed a top 4 spot, a win this week against Erase FD would secure it for them and poise them ready for the finals. This is the first time Unlimited have reached the top 10, and while showing a lot of potential, they have yet to prove they can take series off of the upper teams. They will be hoping to qualify for winter champs in the second set of qualifiers this Sunday and further cement their position as a top 10 team in Oceania.
