Shalthis Says: Looking at the EU Power Rankings (5/15 - 5/28)

7 years ago by Shalthis in Esports

The latest EU Power Rankings are out and some of the results are not too surprising.

10.) COW NOSE | Neilskoek, Zensuz, Rtx_Ronday

While the team doesn’t have an official 3rd at this time, they’re still back in the top 10. Even though they are top 10 since Gale Force and OneTrickPony disbanded, I’m a little surprised they’re even eligible, since they don’t have an official third yet. Sure, they may have 10th place results, but they have an incomplete team

9.) UNSPECIFIED (former PlanetKey Dynamics) | mrvn., Radioo, Dani28201, RuffyBunny, Ryuu

Though there would be no more PlanetKey sponsorship after Monday, these results would take place before the team would go by Unspecified. They performed as any team of their ranking would: they lost to teams higher ranked than them and beat teams lower ranked. The former crew of PlanetKey didn’t do anything surprising over the last few weeks.

8.) PARALLAX | Alex161, Reepex, Data

Though this is a surprising name to see on this list, you can’t ignore their results. Both teams may have been using subs, but wins over Mock-it and FlipSid3 are worth a lot. Maybe even more than 8th. Parallax did some really good things and I’m looking forward to seeing this team compete in RLCS 4 as well as which sponsor (if any) will pick them up.

7.) TEAM INFUSED | Doomsee, Bluey, Sebadam, EyeIgnite, LJourney

Infused is one of those middle-of-the-pack sort of teams that you rarely expect great things from, but this timeframe was very different. They entered a lot of tournaments and scored some wins over Northern Gaming and the team their ranked just ahead, Parallax. Like them, I thought Infused should be ranked higher. But even a 7 or 8 in Europe is a pretty big deal.

6.) THE LEFTOVERS | Snaski, Sikii, Ferra, Mout

I was very surprised, at first glance, to see The Leftovers ranked so low. As an RLCS-playoff team, I thought they’d be top 4, but then I saw their results over the timeframe the rankers were using and I’m fairly surprised they were ranked so high. With no top 4 placements in the last two Gfinity tournaments and series losses to F3 with a sub and Cro, JTR, and neon remix, they’re entering the RLCS Live LAN Finals as the team that needs a big win.

5.) PENTA SPORTS | Pwndx, Killerno7, FreaKii, Reganam

This was one of my first indications that something weird happened during this timeframe. Why was a team that was eliminated from the RLCS out-ranking a team that wasn’t? Then I read the results. PENTA scored wins over Mock-It, Cow Nose, and Northern Gaming. PENTA should probably still be in the RLCS tournament. We’ve seen Pwndx and FreaKii with other players, most notably Paschy and Violent         Panda from the recently disbanded Gale Force. Time will tell. As will RLCS Season 4.

4.) FLIPSID3 TACTICS | Markydooda, kuxir97, gReazymeister

No, FlipSid3 didn’t suddenly become a worse team. They just haven’t played with their full roster during the last two weeks, which isn’t anything new or unusual for this team. Expect F3 to remain tough to beat, but they’re going against some very stiff competition this season from all the regions. While they enter Los Angeles as the favorites, there are plenty of teams who’d love to play spoiler.

3.) MOCK-IT ESPORTS | Miztik, Kaydop, Fairy Peak

Though they did well in the RLCS so far, there isn’t much to say about Mock-It. Over the last few weeks, Mock-It is roughly the same as FlipSid3 in that they haven’t done much without a sub and both teams went to LA early to play in their own bootcamps. As probably the next most likely team to win RLCS, you can feel however you want about their sponsor, but you can’t deny that these are some of the most talented players in the world.

2.) ELEMENT | Metsanauris, Mognus, al0t

I didn’t expect to see this name this high on the list, but it’s an interesting couple of weeks. With some solid tournament performance, I expect we’ll see a lot more out of Element by RLCS 4, which I know a lot of people have their eye on. As part of Resonant, the team which almost completely eliminated the defending champions before the RLCS S3 LAN, the trio hopes to do even better in the next RLCS tournament.

1.) NORTHERN GAMING | Remkoe, Maesto, Deevo, Turbopolsa, Masterio

It isn’t too surprising that Northern Gaming is on the top of this list. Even though they’re the only EU team in the first round of the RLCS LAN Finals, they had a solid week of tournament results and they should not be taken lightly by any opponent they face. While this window of advancement could close abruptly on Northern Gaming, I see them acting as some sort of spoiler in RLCS. If you can even call them that.
