Out with the goofy cartoony theme that was Season 6 — Rocket League Season 7 is finally upon us! Season 7 is packed and is available starting today, June 15 through September 7th, 2022.

The Theme

As with every new season, there's an overall theme that can be seen throughout the new content. This time around, it's lavishness and luxury all around, with everything drenched in gold, covered with marble, and outfitted with diamonds. Very complimentary to the golden Alpha and Beta items, as well as the Fancy Formal decals that were released in the Item Shop as part of a celebration of Rocket League's birthday a couple of years ago.

The timing is good, because this July marks Rocket League's (and our 🥳) 7th birthday, and we can't help but think this is all purposefully timed.

Rocket Pass

New season, new Rocket Pass! As always, there's a free tier which contains some perks and item drops, but for the cooler items, you're going to need to purchase the Premium Rocket Pass. Of course, the items that drop in the Pro Tiers are fully tradable, so it's not strictly necessary to pay if you only want one or two of the items.

If you decide to buy the Rocket Pass, which unlocks the Maestro car and gives you the opportunity to play to unlock plenty more, it'll cost you the usual 1,000 credits. Alternatively, if you want a head-start on your Rocket Pass experience, you can pay 2,000 credits which will unlock both the Premium Rocket Pass and the first twelve tiers.

This Rocket Pass adds 70 tiers of items — the majority of which can only be obtained in the Pro Tiers. Once you surpass Pro Tier 70, you will start unlocking painted variants of the Rocket Pass items, as usual…

Gold Paint

HOWEVER, for the first time ever, Rocket League now has Golden Painted items! These items will start dropping after Pro Tier 70, but are much rarer than the regular painted variants. Some golden items won't unlock until Pro Tier 150, so there's plenty of reasons to start grinding levels this season. If you're not up for the challenge yourself, you can of course trade your way to golden items right here on RL Garage.

This also marks the first introduction of a new paint Rocket League has seen since the original 13 paint-variants were added back in 2016.

At this time, it is unclear exactly which items will receive the golden treatment. RL Garage can confirm that there are quite a few items that don't appear to be obtainable in gold. What we do know, is that, at a minimum, some older items will be dropping in gold paint, as hinted by Psyonix in the Season 7 trailer. Pictured below are golden versions of the old Spyder wheels and Top Hat topper.

Items

As for the items themselves, they follow a familiar pattern: A new car, a new goal explosion, and a mix of new wheels, decals, boosts, and more.

The highlight-item of the season is the new Maestro car — a luxurious Rolls-Royce Phantom-inspired rocket-powered battle-car, with a huge front grill and boxy lines. Psyonix has confirmed that it will be using the popular Dominus hitbox.

Accompanying the new car is the jaw-dropping new Phoenix Fire Goal Explosion, which is shown very prominently in the Season 7 trailer with the beautiful golden paint. We suspect this item in the gold paint will be super rare, and only available in very high Pro Tiers.

New Arena: Utopia Coliseum (Gilded)

Psyonix has released a fourth variation of the Utopia Coliseum arena — this time with beautiful marble flooring and golden accents and statues all around.

Let's take a look at its quirks and features:

This is a standard-sized Soccar map, just like the other variants, so it should play fairly similar to what you're used to. This appears to be the first variant of Utopia Coliseum that is set at night (the others being day, dusk, and snowy), which may be an annoyance to some players. Interestingly, this map adds a very cool looking aurora borealis that flows on the ceiling of the arena. This is a first for Rocket League, and we love to see it! Whether it interferes with gameplay remains to be seen.

Select Favorites 2 Series

Starting June 16th, this new series will be dropping blueprints of your favorite items, such as the Dueling Dragons Goal Explosion, Zomba Wheels, and Interstellar Black Market Decal.

Judging from the promotional material Psyonix has given us, it has been revealed that Dueling Dragons will FINALLY be dropping in painted variants, meaning they can now be traded. Previously, painted Dueling Dragons were only available as trade-locked items through the in-game Item Shop. The same appears to be the case for the Pixelated Shades topper.

These items will definitely be a hot commodity, and we welcome them with open arms!

New Tournament Rewards

It wouldn't be a new season without updated Tournament rewards. The new rewards take a different approach from the fancy, luxury theme of the rest of the season. Instead, these tournament reward items are silly and fun.

Some of notable new reward items include a Dunker Goal Explosion, Dunker Boost, Wacky Taffy Black Market Decal, and Nunya: Roasted Wheels.

Esport Goal Explosions

Psyonix have invested heavily in the Rocket League Championship Series this year. Fans of RLCS will be happy to know that there are Goal Explosions coming for the participating esports teams. These will become available for purchase from the Esports Shop in Rocket League. This was showcased in the Season 7 trailer with a G2 Goal Explosion.

Custom Training update

Season 7 also introduces a big update to the in-game custom training packs. This is an area of the game that has been largely forgotten about since its release, but they're finally giving the training pack system some much-needed attention. The revamped training packs allow you to play shots in any order you want. The game will track your shot progression, letting you come back at a later time to complete the rest. You will also have the option to mirror shots, so you can practice hitting or saving shots from different angles. Summer Anniversary Event

Lastly, Psyonix has confirmed that there will be a new Summer Anniversary limited time event, likely to celebrate the 7th birthday of Rocket League in July. The details of this new event are still a mystery, but they will be revealed soon.

RL Garage's take

Honestly, we're pretty thrilled with this season. It really feels like Psyonix outdid themselves with this one, after an admittedly lackluster and boring Season 6. After scouring the internet, it appears that the community shares the same thoughts on this season, being overall very positive.

The item selection this season feels fresh, and the items are desirable, giving us more reasons to play. The introduction of the new golden paint is just awesome and is a welcome change. Perhaps it will finally give Titanium White a run for its money!

Even this season's new Item Series is great. Just a cool collection of fan-favorite items, now with painted Dueling Dragons. Sure, there are no new items in this series, but we're okay with that.

If there is one criticism we would give, it would have to be the reuse of Utopia Coliseum. But then again, we really love the look of it, and it fits the theme nicely. All things considered, we would have preferred a new original map. Can't have everything!
