RLCS Group Stage 2 Wrap-Up

8 years ago by QuestFerret in Esports

After more than twenty five hour of coverage, the second RLCS group stage concluded last night. We saw some of the very best and most intense Rocket League so far, and we know who will be playing next week in the second RLCS Online Finals.

North America

The NA side of the group stage saw an incredible four way tie for places three, four, five and six. After the tie breaker was applied it was Genesis and Kings of Urban that took the coveted third and fourth spots, meaning that iBUYPOWER Cosmic and Mockit eSports NA miss out on the chance to play for a slice of the $5,000 prize pool available in the online final. Unfortunately for Mockit, the tie breaker also condemned them to watching the RLCS LAN from home - they finished in the last of the four slots, meaning that they don't quite have enough points to qualify for the LAN in any scenario.

Lucky Bounce and Exodus were the big winners this weekend in North America, though. Both played fantastically and ended up finishing #1 and #2 in the group stage with 22 and 21 wins respectively.

Europe

Although the European side of things was nowhere near as close as North America, it still had drama going down to the final game. The final game of the day was between Supersonic Avengers and The Flying Dutchmen. The winner of the series would be going to next week's final, the loser would be sitting on the sidelines. There was also the added drama that Supersonic Avengers needed to win to keep their slim hopes of going to the LAN alive, so naturally the series in to the final game with the teams tied at two wins each. Supersonic Avengers snuck the win to take game five and the series, allowing them to sneak into next week's event the a tie-breaker.

The LAN

Despite still having the online finals ahead, we know 7 of the eight teams that will be flying out to Hollywood next month to participate in Rocket League's first official LAN event. Their seeding will vary depending on the outcome of the next week's online finals, but the following teams will end up with an unsurpassable number of points:

There are two teams in contention for the final spot at the LAN, The Flying Dutchmen and Supersonic Avengers. In the event that the Supersonic Avengers win next week's online final outright, the spot will be theirs. If they don't, the Flying Dutchmen will take the spot instead.

All of the action will be over at twitch.tv/rocketleague and there's still a lot to play for with preferential seeding at the LAN event and $5000 per region on the line. Make sure to tune in on Saturday and Sunday if you can to see the very best Rocket League teams face off.

Watched the EU last night and it was hype. Do not really know what you are talking about but yeah it was very close with that game.
